Exhaust system upgrade Desperately NEED HELP (1st timer)

Hi Guys,

I have a 2012 X6M with all stock parts. I would really love to make it sound louder because I really think on this stock config I can barely hear any sound. Currently I am looking around for aftermarket exhaust systems and really got confused what to do. I am also restricted by budget here. I am thinking to spend NO MORE than 3k for the upgrade (if possible, including the installation cost).

Trying to see here if you guys have any recommendations?

Should I just do the Axle-Back (will it increase the sound at all?) I was kinda looking at supersprint rear exhaust system and also Gintani exhaust.

Btw, I live in LA, so if you guys have any recommendations on muffler shop or some other places that I can go and browse around, please do let me know. It will be very helpful

Dinan is running their 15% off sale this month.
Their muffler MSRP is 3k so you will be able to get it installed around 3k.

Does it sound loud enough by just changing the muffler tho? and how does dinan's sound compared to supersprint or gintani? Any idea?

I just did some more research and came across Megan exhaust. Any thoughts about this exhaust?

It seems to be a very cheap alternative (approx. $390, but will it fit X6M since I only saw for X5M ?) and if I go with this, can probably go with AA tuning as well. How does it sound?

Some people likes Megan but in my opinion, stock system would be much higher quality system than $390 retail exhaust (then it's gonna cost about $200 to actually make that thing). I'm not sure I like to install 400 bucks system on my almost 100k ride....

???

I had an full Akra Evo (cat back) which took 2-2.5 hours to install.
I'm installing Dinan soon which will take about 1.5 hours.
3 hours seems too much...

Akra is the best performance (and the best looking) system for sure.
But I wanted a lil more rumble sound than the power (Akra has slightly deeper and nicer tone but it's very silent system).

Yeah. I really seriously thought about adding Akra down pipe.
But from my experience from Dinan full system on my previous E90M3, I really couldn't handle the smell. My wife hated it and I felt so bad for motorcycle, bicycler and convertible peeps behind me whenever I stop at the light.
So decided to "downgrade" it.

I would also like to find out about the Gintani system for my X5M! No one has purchased one of these?

If you're considering the Eisenmanns, definitely go for the sport and not the race. I had the race, and it was wayy to loud. Another muffler I really like is Remus. Id stay away Megan racing, it looks cheap on the car, and doesnt really change the sound much.

So, even by changing the muffler only, it will make it super loud?

Usually NA engine sounds more aggressive than turbo.
But X5M Vorsteiner system sounds more aggressive than M3?
That's crazy.

I will be getting my X5M back hopefully this coming week. I had the Dinan exhaust installed instead of buying another stock system from the accident I was in.

I will report back and let everyone know the sound difference. I expect a small change, but as others have mentioned OP most likely catless DPs will give you the biggest change in sound. But then you have to worry about emissions and a CEL light depending on where you live.

I really still am deciding either dinan (since they are having 15%disc going on) or voisteiner (cat back system) or a used eisenmann race exhaust. Any preference or input for those three guys? Which of those sounds the "sexiest"? Haha.

I gotta get a used einsemann to fit it into my budget.

The eisenmann race is by far the loudest. In fact, its unbearably loud, and there is droning. The luxury feel of the car will be lost. I love a race-y sound on my car, but I couldn't handle the e-race anymore and took it off the car after a few weeks!! I would recommend a system that utilizes the vacuum valves, that way you can change the "volume" when you are in M or S mode.
