VRSF 3.5 down pipe, anyone bought?
I'm ready for the next step in the performance area and I'm willing to buy this VRSF.
Has anyone bought this product? What's the level difficulty on a DIY project? Is VRSF worth it?

It's the same pipe as used in the F10 so you may be able to use this link as reference:
http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=887817 Install for F10 is super easy, hopefully that translates to the E70. I actually couldn't find threads on the VRSF downpipe for the 3.5i. If you search you can find people discussing other brand downpipes though. At the price point I'd say they are definitely worth it. I had the F10 with JB4 and it was killer...my next step was the downpipe and I planned to go VRSF but ended up buying a different car. EDIT: Make sure you try to buy through the forum for a member discount. VRSF posts in the classifieds all the time.

I keep teasing myself with those classified posts from VR. I'm sure it will make a huge difference on the N55 with a tune. I'm a DIY'er but might just have a shop do it so I'm not wasting a day.
I just emailed sales@vr-speed. Hopefully they get back to me..

I notice people talking about the DP will give a CEL(check engine) and a tune will stop that.. I have a BMS juiceBox & also iCarly pro with Gen2 OBD adapter. Do you think the BMS JB will help with this check engine? I don't wanna have to clear a code every time I start up.

They have a cel delete option for 99$. In hoping there's a discount because $499.98 (WTF is 98c FOR) for a headache is NOT worth it.
$399 without Cel Delete

I was on the same boat as you. Was thinking about DP but the CEL and emissions was a turn off for me. Also, looking at the gains between the stage 1 and 2 maps (I have Cobb AP), there's only like a 10-20 hp/tq gain (also keep in mind that the stage 2 maps have 3 psi more boost than stage 1) so I think the gains aren't really there. Which is why I'm not installing a DP right now.

OR. DINAN STAGE 2 just lowered their price for the N55 from $1,338.00 to $669.00.
Hp:355 lbtq:401. Done at BMW & covered by DINAN. https://www.dinancars.com/product/d9...5i-n55-engine/

I just emailed the BMS guys about doing a JB4 for the N55 X5. They released the JB4 for the X5M late last year so should be familiar with X5 DME. The N63 and S63 installs are more complicated than most JB4 since you have to pull and intercept wires running straight to the DME. I did a similar install on the wife's 3.0si and wasn't that big of a deal, just looks daunting. I imagine they could just take the N63/S63 wiring harness and the N55 control board to make it work...but I really have no idea what I'm talking about so I'll let you know when they respond.

The E70 has a bigger intercooler than the 335 so it is assumed that it would cool almost as good as a upgraded intercooler. I did run stage1+ aggressive for a while and have seen 14 psi. Now I'm just running stage1+ sport which is like 12 psi. Based on the map notes, stage2+ aggressive is 18 psi. On the dyno maps, it's only a minor % increase in hp and tq fom the stage1+ and stage2+. Assuming you get more hq and tq from increased boost, it seems as if a catless dp doesn't add any power. At this stage, I would buy the MHD tune instead of the Cobb. It can be bought for cheaper ($250-$400) and offers more support and updates. I would not get Dinan as I still think their sale price is too high. |

That's another option here.. my case I would have to find a good enough android tablet or phone so that's another 150-200. I'm really leaning towards the DINAN or CoBB

I like Cobb/MHD because it is more customizable vs the Dinan, you can switch maps/uninstall on demand. I don't know if Dinan will take care of the CEL with a catless DP but the Cobb/MHD should.
What year is your X5? Cobb only supports 2011 and early build 2012s. |

2011 I guess early build. I called Cobb and it's a green light, I'm able to get it... good looking for that link, great to see options.

You don't need an expensive tablet man, I bought mine for 40 bucks just shop on amazon and use my MHD tune page to help regarding which version it should be as far as the android goes. Either way as mentioned above the DPs don't do as much I feel on the E70s as they did on my E90. CEL is a PITA period to even tackled, I believe MHD does get rid of the CEL regardless if that's a tuning route you want to try out

...If anyone cares: BMS just said NO to the E70 N55 JB4 and recommended the stage 1. Looks like Cobb it is!

The app itself is free everything else price wise is below;
Price list (licenses are VIN Locked and stored by Google along your Play store account): - Flasher module: $199 - MHD maps packs: $49 each. Requires the Flasher module. - Monitor module: $69 So you're looking at $250 which I feel is a great price for a solid tuning option for our cars that has pro-tuners and those whom already have it flashed on this forum to lend a hand to help
