2013 X5 50i E70 N63 HPFP "High Pressure Fuel Pump"
Well hello there everyone I'm pretty much new to this and wanted to receive some input on this particular vehicle and also for future Bimmer rides as well.
Ok, so here's the story I recently purchased this beautiful 2K13 X50i 4.4L E70 N63 and it has been running marvelous for the past couple months. I took a vacation from work since it was time for it and I thought to take it out of state. Prior to to doing so it shows on the Gas door minimum octane rating is 89. which I've never put in any foreign car. so I've been putting 89 ever sense. A week later check engine light appeared "reduced power". Did some research, I have a scanner CODES P0300, P0305 P0306, P0307 P15EF pending, P01C8 pending, P0308, and also to confirm the issue and had to spend a little bit took it to the dealer and all leads to Banks 2 HPFP. I'm getting misfires on cylinder 5,6,7,8 before it wasn't reading 7 only 5 and 6. and now 8. I also noticed there really isn't much information on Changing these parts. So I will be making a thread on how to replace the HPFP. has anyone experience such an ordeal? The other HPFP on Bank 1 seems fine no misfires and I've been putting 91 and above. should I replace that as well, I mean if it's not broken don't fix it right. Thanks |

It's a pretty basic part to replace and one of the easier ones. Check out newtis as mentioned above and get the part yourself, the oem Bosch pump is about 300ish dollars of you go to BMW your looking at about 1400 dollars just for the pump. Should take you less then an hour to do. Coupl things to note: get a Full face sheild off Amazon. Don't get me wrong, I like squirters just as much as the next guy but getting hit in the face with gas at 2000+ psi (rare but possible) is not my idea of a good time. Be absolutely meticulous with cleanliness around the fuel fittings and make sure you get the correct torque on the fittings. Some people have reported being able to install the pump in even with the pump piston on the high part of the cam lobe by gently tightening each side of the pump one half turn at a time. BMW tells you to rotate the engine if this piston isn't bottomed out, which means your pulling your front brace and cooling fan to get the the crank bolt..

Coils are super easy; rotate side to side to crack it loose (won't move much but about an 1/8), pull up on the release clip, pull it out, mind the wire harness doesn't get caught up on the way out. Thats it, no tools needed |

You should read up on the N63 CCP (customer care package) if you haven't already.
I had my HPFP's replaced for free by BMW under this campaign, along with a ton of other parts. |
