Well I let the vehicle cool completely 100% then I took it out for a heavy duty romp / I live in Connecticut this past weekend I drove 400 and something miles up to the border of Canada in New York to visit some family and the highest octane gas they had up there what they called super premium unleaded was 90 octane at $3.65 a gallon which is NG! But when you don’t have a choice what can you do so after I just came back I did about a buck 165 Big boost pressure times WOT / The truck pulled like a freight train not a hiccup- alternating in and out of sport mode in the transmission and in and out of M mode so far so good/ I pray to the M gods that my turbo is unharmed and good because I use extremely high end oil and I am very very strict about letting the vehicle cool letting the turbos cool etc vehicle has 110,000 miles 6500 7500 miles between oil changes lubri molly mollygen I don’t skimp on this vehicle so I hope it was just an interesting afternoon with shitty gas

Lucas octane booster is available at any Walmart, Autozone, or Orielys and is very effective, Royal Purple works excellent too. Boostane is another excellent choice. I have data logged them all and all show timing increases during boost. I have continuously run octane boosters for nearly 70k miles without issue (long term use not recommended if your engine still has its cats)
As for your codes, they are low boost codes. Start with the basics (check for any leaks in ducting, ccv tubes, vacuum tubes. Check your wastegates for excessive wear and your pressure converters. At 110k my guess would be cracked ccv tubes, cracked vacuum lines, worn wastegates (you can adjust them somewhat). If all those check out, look into your vacuum pump, I believe they are still discounted from bmw from 500 to 70 dollars so might want to replace it just for the hell of it. I did mine just because it was so cheap. Last edited by Sophisticated Redneck; 03-24-2021 at 10:47 AM.. |

I don’t think your episode was likely an octane problem. Even with 90octane the engine if working correctly should pull timing and adjust fueling to compensate. I’ve run 90 before and had no problems when that’s all that is available. You might loose a little power from pulling timing. 30FF is a common issue on these cars that can be intermittent. I’ve chased it a while on mine and never fully resolved. In my case, since I’ve replaced all the ccv lines, filtered air ducts, pneumatic pressure converters, diverter valves, map sensors, and somethings I’ve probably forgotten, it’s most likely a wastegate problem. My issue only shows up when towing in hilly terrain in 6th gears in warm weather. Never had a reduced power mode pop up when not towing.

You literally said what I was thinking! Lol / (that's why I am considering the post above with the turbo build and mamba parts ) Very good information that's the same thing I've been doing what a freaking headache! I kind of like the option on my car how it repairs and fixes itself lol (temporarily)! I'm a Mechanic, But I don't wrench full time. / I think the same ! Wastegate ! / 114.885mi / i'll do a vacuum test on it see how the actuators work (when I get around to it) and then a tail light ASWELL!

Re/Coded the car - Have my "own custom intake setup" - which makes it boost a bit faster, / and DP's (catted) Complete KWV3, (which with tuning makes this truck incredible) don't get me wrong the stock EDC is good but this is a whole new level. Now we're going on three weeks and me doing daily driving every day reaching triple digit speeds, good gas so far nothing! But it still flummoxes me and I don't like it. i'm going to do some logging when I have some more time I have a sneaky suspicion is going to end up being a wastegate issue! |
