Oil Change Happens At 1 Year Interval

I am coming up on 1 glorious year of ownership of my Monte Carlo Blue X6M. I called the dealer and inquired about the oil change, as I have only driven 8000 miles. My display is showing no service needed for another 8000 miles.

They informed me that BMW will perform a 12 month service, which includes changing the oil. They said I had to wait 1 year and 1 day to have it scheduled. I am going in on Monday the 27th.

I too have same color X6M and on the advice of one of the M techs in Melbourne I actually changed my engine oil at 2,000km so I'd say the sooner the first change the better as the oil in this engine is so thin-running (like water) that any minute metal particles could wear adversely. Cheapest preventative maintenance you can do.
