Got my HPFP warranty letter from BMWNA

Although I have had no issues with the high pressure fuel pump, BMW has expanded the warranty to include ALL 2008/2009 N54 engines for 10 years or 120k miles.

My letter was directed at X6 owners, but I suspect the warranty cover all 2007-2009 engines regardless of model.

Is this only for owners with high pressure fuel pumps or is this reall for all 2008/2009 owners? If so, that would be awesome because I have a 2009 50i. I have not received any letter yet, but I have also been out of town all week.

All N54, 6 cylinder, twin turbo engines. The V8 is not an N54.

I would think that considering the Toyota debacle all car manufacturers would be reviewing any issues with their models.

It irks me that while those Toyotas were actively unsafe in only a tiny percentage of vehicles, the n54 engine is passively unsafe in millions of cars around the US. The N54 HPFP has took my view of BMW engines down a notch.

Any facts to back this up? Every day, thousands of cars die on the road, lose power, or catch fire.

Forums have overblown the HPFP issue. Yes you lose some power, you drive in limp mode and get the issue resolved. But few cars have the issue. It only seems like a lot due to forum hysteria.

How do I know that the HPFP is faulty? Can I get it change before anything goes wrong.

Whoops. I missed the part in email about the N54 engine. I read it as all 2008/2009 X6 models

Reputation destroyed !

In Toyota's case, over 40 years of established reputation of reliability is being reduced to dust by a couple of components that probably does not cost anymore than $50 wholesale to make. ! Heard in the news problems have now spread to some Lexus vehicles.
Hats off to the genius that made the policy to stonewall & deny the problem existed in the beginning. Some manufacturers don't learn anything from the Audi debacle in the late '70"s when 60 Minutes did a show on the "sudden acceleration syndrome".

Audi never really recovered from the 70's failures, they gave up trying to sell to the Toyota crowd and have tried to remake themselves as competing with MB & BMW. They have found it tough to sell in their cars in volume at MB/BMW prices, hard to do when you can't find many people driving 5 year old Audi's on the street.

Few cars have the issue my ASS!!! I find it very odd that you continue to down play this HPFP issue thread after thread when you have had no experience with it. I have personally talked to 3 people in my area that has had to have them replaced and one has had to have it replaced more than once. This is not on a forum but people I have talked with so the whole "forum Hysteria" comment goes out the window. As for limp mode, I couldn't back my X6 all the way out of the parking spot it left me in much less to a dealer not to mention I shouldn't have to "drive in limp mode and get the issue resolved" when the vehicle is 2 months old and I pay for a quality product!! Not going to get into all of that again as it has been expressed on a previous thread. Again, nothing personal but your opinion will change when you're left stranded unexpectedly. If that is of no inconvenience to you then more power to you. Sorry but this is an issue along with the turbos hence the new N55 single turbo engines for 2011. They are aware and fortunately stepping up to the plate with the 120,000 mile warranty on the HPFP. This wouldn't be the case if it wasn't a huge issue, think about it!! Best of wishes and luck to all, mine was replaced and running great now so hope it holds up!!!
