The cheapest 6 series in Australia costs A$212,000 while the cheapest X5 costs A$85,000 (assuming the X6 comes here at X5 like prices - I don't think a 6 series coupe is what I'll go for). 4 wheel drives are taxed at a lower rate in this country, which is why I'd be interested in the X6 instead. I'd only spend up to A$160,000 and get an M3 instead if I were to go for a coupe - 650i way too expensive for me.

Thats a really huge price gap.
But my point wasn't that. I am not suggesting you to buy a 6-series. I am just trying to say that whats the point of a X6 if it was lowered and lost its ground clearance?

The ground clearance is only useful if you take it off road. The higher the ground clearance, the higher the centre of gravity, and the worse the handling (relatively of course). I'm sure some people also question the point of losing the storage space you get in an X5 when turning it into an X6, but I believe the result is a better aesthetic appearance, which would also be the result of lowering it a little (or making the wheels bigger). Lowering the vehicle a little destroys the point of it. It's sytlish compared to other SUV's. The sitting position is like a coupe inside, but its much higher above which makes you more in control of the traffic that surrounds you.
I remember Chris Bangle once said that "Its the feel of the car that is new in X6". So lowering it down makes it no different than a ordinary coupe...

I just went onto bmw.com and was surprised to learn this car only has four seats. Shame for such a big car. Will have to wait until they offer a five seater option. If only I could afford an M5 instead.

Doesn't look like there's ever going to be a 5 seat option. BMW is trying really hard to not have the X6 cannibalize the X5, but instead attract a different customer, hence 4 seats versus 7.
