Thumbs down Front bumper needs protection!

I parked my 09 X6 on the street and later I noted my fog light on the lower front bumper was pushed in and torn off its moorings. I realize now that those muscular lights are very flimsy plastic and very vulnerable to nomal bumper to bumper parking stresses. Its as if there are two very large rectangular defects at the bottom of the front bumper. The corner of the bumper of any regular car can easily set me back $100's. I would advise against parallel parking this otherwise beatiful vehicle. Any protection out there yet for this obvious design defect?

I haven't had this issue and I parallel park all the time. Only thing I've done is scratch right rear rim since it sticks out more than tire.

You have parking sensors all over the vehicle and a camera.

Perhaps driving and parking lessons?

Check with your dealer. My dealer has a third party guy that resurfaces rims for $85 and they look brand new when he is done. I really messed up two wheels pretty badly on my old car and took to him and I was shocked he could fix them because they had chunks of metal taken out from brushing up against a few curbs

thanks shenard that's good to know. It's mostly cosmetic but there are few little gouge's.

'normal bumper to bumper parking stresses' ???

Are you CREATING your own parking space by means of pushing other cars out of the way with your bumpers???

I never had any 'bumper to bumper parking stress'

All cars' Front bumper needs protection!

From sand blasting while driving on the highways whether u like it or not...
to other idiot drivers who don't know how to use their mirrors when they park & relies on nudging other peoples' bumpers when parallel parking & people flinging their doors wide open when parking along side...it's dangerous for new cars out there.
Park as far as possible from the madding crowd & walk the last 200 yards to your destination building. Besides the walking is good for u!
Of course u can leave the car in the garage & never drive it to keep it in absolute perfect condition, but is that why u bought the car?

I have to agree with xdrive on this unless you're doing demolition derby parking, it is not normal "parking stress". I assume you mean someone backed into your car and broke off the fog light. After looking at mine I think it's more like someone purposely broke it off, considering where it's located don't see how someone would back into your car and break it off and not damage the bumber also.

It clear many of you have never parked on a city street or a NYC parking garage. Space is tight and you use your bumpers all the time. No matter how careful you are there is no way to control other peoples behavior. These lights and the plastic "t"shaped frame of the light are out there with no protection. I have had ML and 400h and never have seen anything like this.Anybody parking in front on you on a slight angle can hit these things and damage them. My last bill for the drivers side was $800 to reset the light in the frame. A week later it has come unglued. A real drag.Who do you write to at BMW?

Do you have a picture of the damage that you could post for us?

If u have to park on the street, would carrying 24" high red rubber traffic safety cones, & placing one on each front corner help?
Utility company trucks do that all the time.
