BMW engineers gave the background of their iDrive philosophy

Considering many folks here are "obsessed" ( ok IMHO) with the new idrive gadget ...

BMW engineers talk about their iDrive philosophy

Thanks for the link.

I am soooo glad that BMW will not go down the touch screen route. As they said it may be cheaper but distracts you far more from the road than the system they implemented.

Also, seeing all those touch screens in other cars at the resent auto show I went to with all the finger prints and scratches on them, made me glad I have an iDrive controller. Never had to clean my iDrive screen so far

And yes, the new iDrive is far more logical and easier to use. Good job BMW!

My wife is talking about changing her car now to a new model too just because she can't stand the old iDrive system anymore after she played around with the new iDrive during our 750 test drive

Maybe I can convince her to get the new X6M or X5M ... now that be cool

Glad they are steering clear of touch screens. I hate touch screens with a passion.

Agree on the touch screens, imagine leaning over to do something while driving .
unless of course they are going to put the screen in the console where the knob is , not.

Good to hear that the new one is a real improvement. I'll have to check it out.
