Samurai, I'm not sure about a good dyno shop in the city... I want to get mine done as well, but knowing where one is... dunno.. I'll ask my Mechanic, I'm sure he knows the good spots as he dyno's 335i's on the regular...
As For Andrey said, yeah all 35i model cars (unless they got the BMW performance mod) put down 300hp and 300lb Tq. Even with the BMW performance flash, it still is only doing about 320/320. (135's, 335's, 535, X6, X5, etc.) We appologize for bursting that bubble... Lets compare the Charger 5.7L V8 to the BMW X6 35i and 50i engine & M models HP Charger: 370 hp @ 5250 rpm 35i: 300 hp @ 5800 rpm 50i: 400 hp @ 5500 rpm M: 555 hp @ 6000 rpm These are before drive line loss... The Charger has more than the 35i, but less than 50i and M. Torque: Charger: 395 ft-lbs. @ 4200 rpm 35i: 300 ft-lbs. @ 1200 rpm 50i: 450 ft-lbs. @ 1750 rpm M: 500 ft-lbs. @ 1500 rpm The Charger once again has more Tq than the 35i, but here is where the deception is, the Charger has to reach 4200rpms to utilize it's full amount of Torque. While the 35i, 50i and M all have their torque avail at only 1200-1750rpms. This is why you pulled on the Charger... I'm no expert, and I'm sure others could explain this better than me, but this is the basics as I understand it. Hope that clears up some of the reasoning...

Hey Army,
Thanks for all the info. very detailed. Well I guess overall, the 50i is the way to go if you wanna have some fun with "the beast" after all, lol. I have to say, I am a little disappointed because for such an aggressive looking car, they shouldn't try to tame even the V6 model. Oh well. She is still at least pretty to look at. I'm already planning on trading up once the X6 gets a face lift so I will humble myself untill then, lol. Hey, if you ever get some good intel on that DYNO shop, keep me in mind please. Wouldn't mind putter her on the rack to kill any doubt and gain peace of mind as well. Thanks once again.

Hey Eccentric...
Seems that you were right. I was impressed once I chipped my car because I definitely noticed an increase in power, but it would seem I over estimated because I ultimately wanted to belive it. If you read the convo in this thread between Army 335i and myself, the math got broken down to me, So I understand more clearly now. Basically, the JB4 claims that it will ad 80hp and 50 Tque once installed. So if my car was already getting 300 hp, I should be at 380 now and adding 50 to the math on the Tque, puts me at 350. Dont worry, once they facelift the X6, I got my eye on the M version... but by then gas will be over $5.00 so maybe 35i was still the best choice anyway, lol. Originally I DID opt for the 50i when I placed my order 2 years ago, but when I did some soul searching, because I do most of my driving at 15 mph "Rush hour traffic" I opted for the more fuel efficent model... damn those non drivers on the LIE/Grand Central... lol.

It's not just power It's looks, handling, interior feel And most importantly, it's more comfortable in regular mode than 35i and 50i, while a lot sportier in M mode than both |

I hear you, Army 335i. i agree thats why i'm not THAT depressed about the reality check. The 35i is still pretty powerful for her size and takes corners like a dream. Drive safe bro. keep in touch!

Hey AndreyATC,
ultimately the ///M would have been nice but they didn't even have that version out at the time I placed my order. To be honest, at the time i wouldn't be able to afford one of those anyway, lol. That's why I'm planning ahead and saving my pennies!. I see you are having fun with you ///M. I also noticed you are around the NYC area. With traffic and going from one light to the next, do you feel it was worth it? you gotta be a VIP at the gas station with a monster like that. Well enjoy, my friend. one of my Battle Buddies thinks that if it don't have an ///M badge on it, then it aint one of the ultimate driving machines...! Perhaps one day i can join that club... lol

Hey Army335xi (finally got your name right)
Did you get my reply with the whole PM deal...? I'm asking because I relied to your battle buddies message and i want to make sure you got it cause someone else PM'd me last week with the same question twice and I responded both times to him and now once to you, yet no feed back so maybe I'm doing something wrong... well let me know... oh yeah sorry to get off topic on your thread, Barbja

OK, If you have been following this thread you would have seen that although i am not a hardcore racer so I'm not at a track every weekend but I am competetive by nature so I so enjoy putting my car up to the challenge once in a while. After I had my car chipped I DID infact increase the HP/Trque on her though not to the extent that I once believed. Even so, my X6 35i took out the charger hemi on a streck of about 300-400 meters. Now my friend has his charger at a shop as we speak getting a new exaust installed along with a NOS kit!!! He had his air intake done a few weeks ago. So to answer the original question that brought this thread to life... "Does anyone here regret getting a 35i over a 50i?" it depends on what you want out of this car. If you use it as an everyday car, a 35i has plent of power to go shopping and back. If you plan on showing off what BMW can do and put othe people on the road to shame however, you gotta go with an ///M version. At least No less that a 50. Well right now cause my friend is taunting me from is mechanics garage on the phone, I do regret not having at lease the 50... lol Live and learn. i will get him next time. (After my trade up)

If you went with a nicely equipped 35 you could always do a Dinan exhaust and program stage 1 or 2 and be right up there with power. Dinan doesn't void warranty - the dealer I got my 50 from builds new BMW's with Dinan upgrades right there
