crackling noise in 2011 X5

New to forum I recently starting hearing a crackling noise in my 2011 X5
Space Grey Metallic with sport package. At first it sounded like an empty water bottle that got perhaps was wedge somewhere (I have a 7 yr old that only drinks water) but I checked everything out no bottles. It seems to be coming from the rear drivers side passenger door panel. Any help please before having to go to the service dept and they look at me like a kook.

Is there any chance it is coming from the speaker? I had an issue with a speaker in my driver's door having a bad ground and causing an awful "crackling" noise. Either way, I'm certain the dealer should be able to fix it without a problem.

Don't think so because I first noticed it when I had the radio off. But thanks for the suggestion

I find when my X5 is parked in the sun on a hot day, and I start it up and turn on the A/C on Max setting, several minutes later some parts of the front panel seem to creak/crackle. You described it well with the platic bottle description. I pushed my finger against the plastic area by the preset buttons and can replicate the noise. Only happens when going from one extreme temperature to the other. Perhaps something similar happening to you? But maybe in another part of the verhicle.
