Need some help with tires

Hey, everyone, I've got an E70 that's still on its winter wheels and needs to switch over to summers. I bought these wheels: http://www.**********s.com/Avant-Gar...Silver-BMW.htm in the following specs:

Front: 20x8.5 ET20
Rear: 20x10 ET20

Only problem is that I don't know what to do for tires. I've been doing some research, and I came up with the following numbers:

Front: 245/45-R20
Rear: 275/40-R20

The only summer tires I could find in those sizes on TireRack were the Pirelli P-Zeros. So, any of you guys know whether or not those tires in those sizes would be a good fit for those wheels on an E70?

Thanks.

I'd recommend staying with stock sizes. For 20s, the wheels are 20x10 front, 20x11 rear with 275/40 and 315/35 rear tires.

Yeah, unfortunately I already have the wheels - ordered them last fall so I'd have them once spring came around. I didn't realize the OEM 20" setup was so drastically different and **********s didn't mention it either when they sold them to me. They recommended mounting 275/40 and 315/35, but as far as I can tell, those would be way too big for 8.5" and 10" wide wheels. I've emailed them on April 12th, April 17th, and today asking them to research proper tire sizes, but am yet to hear back.

Really wishing I had just bought used OEM 20s with tires off someone on here.

There is a guy selling a whole set of OEM 20" wheels and tires on another forum (starts with bimmer....) for less than you will pay for a set of tires. If you grab those, you can sell your other wheels and probably break even...and you will have stock wheel/tires in the right size.

This is probably the best option, but the E70 and wheels actually belong to a family member who I don't think has the patience to deal with the process of buying and selling again. I didn't see the wheels and tires you mentioned on the other board anyway, although I didn't do a fantastic job searching (do feel free to PM me, though).

Still nothing back from **********s, so I'll be avoiding them in the future and would advise others to do the same.

I'm thinking I'll just order the Pirelli tires in the size I mentioned and get them mounted and hope for the best. I did the math out, and the diameter of the wheel and tire setup comes out to within .05" of the OEM 20x10/20x11 setup. So I'm just going to wind up with less grip and aesthetics due to the setup I have being narrower, but fitment should be okay. 275 is the width BMW uses for 10" wide wheels on the X5, and I think 245 is appropriate for an 8.5" wide wheel.

On one hand, I just want to get this ordeal over with and quit wasting tread on the winters, on the other I'm hesitant to do anything until I know it's right.

Thanks for your help, though. Impressive car collection, by the way.

I second TahoeM3's advice. It is without a doubt the best and smartest thing to do. Buying is a piece of cake and selling will not be difficult at all if the price you ask for the wheels is lower than all the rest. The loss for the mistake will be minimal and the joy of having proper wheels and tires will be high.

So is the consensus that the wheels that I currently have will be unsafe or negatively affect handling, or is it just a matter of aesthetics?

Still nothing back from **********s. Funny how supportive and friendly they were during the process of making the sale and how they won't even reply to my emails now.

Your wheels would make a nice winter set as well, keep that in mind. These would probably easily sell for those in winter climates.
