Oil Leak...
I just passed 10k miles and last week noticed quarter sized drops of oil on my garage floor. I verified that it dripped a little each day.
I took it to the dealer early this morning. Late this afternoon got the call that says oil is "pooling somewhere in the bottom of the engine" but they can't find the source or where it is dripping. They want to keep it for a week, put newspaper under it, include dye in the oil and try to figure it out. Luckily, I will be travelling so I wouldn't be driving anyway but the unclear diagnosis makes me nervous. Anyone else had an oil leak experience?

Not here. Sounds a little odd that they cannot quickly diagnose where the leak is coming from.

Diagnosis is a blown rear main seal. They dropped the exhaust and transmission to find it. Apparently there was a grand total of one in the states! They are overnighting it and I hope to get it back by the weekend.

Somethings strange
They assemble the cars in S Carolina, so why aren't parts available from the factory? Is this Efficient Dynamics?? to send parts fr. the Fatherland when there r probably parts @ the factory?

I think most of the components are shipped from Germany. I believe the US plant is just assembly. So far every part I have ordered has come from Germany!

Just got my car back, 3 1/2 weeks. They received a new rear main seal from Germany Thursday night and put everything back together on Friday. I will let you know if there are further issues.
If this happens to you, prepare for a long time with a loaner!

I had similar experience when a water pump when out on my 50i and was causing false engine overheating warnings. Apparently, the 50i has four water pumps--two per turbo. I initially thought they could just get the part from South Carolina, but I remembered something from picking my car up there at the factory--the engines come fully assembled from Germany. So there are hardly any parts in the states! The water pump took 2+ weeks to get, plus another week to install. At least they gave me a nice, low mileage 528i to drive around during the wait. Keep your fingers crossed there are no more engine issues!
