OP: You can find bedding guides all over the interwebs.
Specifically, look for Brembo's guide, it's easy to find.
Was just searching for a good bed-in procedure, and stumbled upon the Brembo .pdf... Here is the text:

Quote:
It is very important to follow proper brake bedding procedure following installation. This is necessary not only for optimum performance of the system, but also to avoid onset of judder (vibration felt through brake and steering). The discs are delivered with a thin zinc coating to prevent corrosion. Prior to beginning the bedding procedure, this plating must be removed from the braking surfaces by driving the car slowly (under 30mph) and performing very light brake applications in order to remove the plating without generating heat. With too much heat or pedal pressure, this plating can be deposited unevenly on the disc, and impregnated into the pad, further increasing the likelihood of judder development. Once a visual inspection of the braking surfaces confirms that the plating has been evenly removed, begin with the bedding procedure as specified below.
  • Drive vehicle to a remote area and perform at least 30 brake applications of 3 second duration. Use light/medium deceleration with varying starting speeds. Leave at least mile between each brake application
  • The purpose of this procedure is to gradually increase the temperature in the components without thermal shock, and to mate the brake pad and disc friction surfaces
  • After the repeated stops, drive the vehicle for several miles with little or no braking in order to adequately cool the components
  • The system is now ready for normal use

NOTE: This entire procedure must be complete before driving the vehicle as normal. It is especially important that this process is completed before any extended same-speed driving is done (i.e. freeway travel). Failure to follow these instructions greatly increases the likelihood of judder development.
I don't doubt that this bedding procedure is helpful but considering the car gets driven a bit before you receive it, it would seem that the initial bedding procedure can't be guaranteed. You would also need to by chance have the proper road to do the procedures right near the dealership of delivery. I can't imagine that BMW would sell a factory option that requires all of this. Perhaps that is the case for aftermarket Brembo brakes but I have to imagine that this long process is not completely required for a new factory vehicle. Is it mentioned anywhere in a BMW guide to do this?

From the looks of it, new m perf brake kits don't have that colorful zinc coating like on new aftermarket brembo kits so I don't think the bedding procedure applies.

That's what I suspected.

Has anyone heard a whistling sound when coming to a stop with the M performance brakes?
I took delivery of my 335 yesterday and the brakes made no sound.
Today, i heard a whistling sound when braking to a stop starting at around 10-15 mph.
It doesn't do it every time.
I have about 200 miles.
Any input is appreciated.

Are you near a wall when you hear this noise (like concrete barrier?)
If so, normal.

Don't worry, it's normal. Usually it's just a little pebble stuck on the brakes. On my car the squeal will happen for a few days and then go away for a couple weeks, and then come back. It's very common on BMW brakes.

Is it confirm that the M Performance Brake need you to press on the pedal a longer distance compared to the stock? The stock brakes give you a very firm pedal pressure, does the M performance bbk give you that firm pedal feel?

I'm contemplating whether to get the brakes after reading abt the soft pedal feel.
My previous ride was on AP Racing and they were fantastic. Good bite and excellent pedal feel. I was hope the M Perf BBK will have this feel and not like stepping on a Logitech G27 on GT6....

I don't believe that it is normal. The squealing noise that I was hearing was ear piercing.
I have friends with the same brakes and other BMWs and they don't have any brake noise.
The dealer that I took it to also said that it wasn't normal.

Hi folks, and please don't flame me here. I believe this is my first post and this is a f30 forum.

I originally was thinking of getting the f30. But ended up getting an F10 instead. In between my purchase, I actually bought the M performance brake for the F30.

Was wondering if anyone could share their insights on whether the brakes can be fitted on an F10. To my knowledge, and just like generic Brembo brakes, all you need to do is to get the right bracket to fit the brakes.

Thanks and appreciate it.

Nice. I have a few questions: The stock F3X 35i front calipers look very similar to the M ones (well, it's bare aluminum and not colorful). Are they the same size? Can we just replace the front rotors with the M slotted and dimpled ones for better braking performance?

Looks like the standard rotors are 340mm, but I found the cross drilled & slotted version for the smaller size as well.

I just ordered the M Performance Brake kit for my F30 from BMW of Mountain View. My install is scheduled for June 1st, so I'll report back after the install regarding the difference. I'm currently running stock 328i brakes.

Well, the brake pedal still feels frustratingly spongy and unresponsive on these so-called 'Performance' brakes. The dealer said they have re-bled the entire system and performed all the required mechanical and electronic work. They said the somewhat delayed/soft pedal feel may be due to the fact that the pistons are larger and require more brake fluid displacement than the stock brakes.
As much as I love the looks of these M-Performance brakes, needless to say that I am hugely disappointed in what I perceive to be almost a degradation in braking responsiveness and performance. This may be a matter of personal preference and judgement is somewhat subjective. Most people would probably find nothing wrong with my new brakes. But I drive a BMW, "The Ultimate Driving Machine" because I enjoy and expect a responsive, dynamic experience at all levels. I expect feedback from the car on everything to be direct, precise, and tight. It has been my experience with my 2 previous BMW cars (1997 528i, 2006 330i), both purchased new. I love everything about my new 335i M-Sport Line, but I can't believe that these newly installed M-Performance brakes can't deliver a better pedal feel!
I would love to hear about the experience of other members who have done the same upgrade.
I've had my M Perf brakes for two weeks and my experience is identical to yours. Looks like it's been many years for you, what are they like after thousands of miles? Any improvement?

It's pretty well known that the m-performance brake pads are pretty lousy.

Just swap the pads and you'll be happy. You can either use the M-Sport pads or I think the F8x standard pads fit as well.

Could anyone tell me if I'll be fine using OZ racing Ultraleggera 18x8, with the M-performance brakes? Will caliper clear the inner barrel?

So I got these installed today on my F32 MSport Coupe. Love the look of them, the touch of colour and the filled out look of the disc.

Driving away from the dealership felt like the car had no brakes. Very soft and mushy. I had expected this from what I'd read here, so will report back in due course after some more miles, but wow... soft. Kind of worried they didn't get the install right, however the dealer insists he re-flushed with new brake fluid, and programmed the on-board to state the correct rotor size.

I asked dealer about bedding in, he said "keep it very calm up to 1200 miles". This directly contradicts the other bedding in advice seen on this forum which appears to be "stand on them repeatedly" from high speed (after maybe 125 miles).

Also, is there a 'direction' that the rotor needs to be installed? Ie, the slot direction? My fronts, for example, have the slot angled such that the line of the slot is closer to the calliper at the wheel centre, and further away from the calliper at the wheel rim (when looking at it from the side of the car, hope that makes sense). I noticed the OP had his differently mounted on his fronts.

Cheers.

Hi all, just installed my mperf brake kit yesterday, dealer claims to have bled it 3 times, but it's still soft and spongy.
Is this one of those things that get better with time? Cause I don't like having to drive the pedal in each time I wanna kit the brakes moderately.

I had the same issue. Took it back, they bled it, they confirmed that it was still soft and spongey. They then bled it again, then checked the bearings that they replaced in doing the work, turned out the replacement bearings were not right, replaced them, and the brake feel is fixed. Brake travel is a little longer, but allows great progressive feel on braking. Braking power is very good indeed.
