Maybe tune issues..... Ideas??

Hey guys,
I have a 09 BMW X6 5.0…. Love the car so I got a ESS Tune for it. When I run the tune I get the following codes 2B16, 2B19, 2B22 and 30FF. When in 5ht gear on the freeway with the throttle half ways down the car starts boosting and then it acts like there is an interruption somewhere then it goes into limp mode.

When I have it on stock the cars runs great with no issues. I had the dealer check the car and was unable to find any issues with it. I have been working with ESS guys to help me figure out the issue. ESS rocks…. Those guys are so helpful I go to say.

If you guys have any ideas about the codes please let me know I would appreciate it. If I knew what was going out or bad, I would replace it.
Thanks guys

I would suggest it's either an injector or a coil pack. You should also check your plugs. Those three items are the first to reveal themselves when you up the boost on an N63.

Google those codes. I think 30FF is a boost leak which could make itself noticeable when you run few a more psi.

Thank you guys for the response…. I have had the injectors replaces about a year ago. I am thinking about replacing all the coils and see if that helps the issue. Thanks to Peter91118 the codes are as follow.

2B16 Throttle valve actuator governor monitoring, bank 2
2B19 lonic current signal amplification, bank 1
2B22 Throttle valve actuator pre-drive check, bank 2
30FF Low Boost

I am not sure how to check for leaks but I guess I’ll google around a bit. ESS Tech has been helping with getting a different map as well to try it out. Awesome support from them for now.

At this point the car has a hard time starting as well. It cranks for about 5 seconds here and there and it barely starts but still no codes for anything.

Thank you guys for your help.

Any updates on this? Stock flash, no issues. Stage 2 flash, no issues. JB4 map 6 and I get 2B16, 2B17 and 2B22.

If I had to guess with those codes you have there, the ESS tuning is incorrect for the throttle control. Something in the code has to be setting those codes, as in, the truck is looking for a certain amount of throttle actuation, it isn't obtaining it, then it throws the boost code. Sounds like a definite ESS issue. Have you told them the codes your getting? It may be something wrong with your particular tune if you are the only one having the issue.

Keep in mind I am a mechanic, but not a professional BMW mechanic, some of the stuff I am saying is probably wrong, but just an idea.

OP needs to flash back to stock and see if the same problem exists and/or search for the Reduced power warning thread on here where it can be anything from a boost sensor (a code I received) but was ultimately fixed by replacing the vacuum lines. I myself resolved my post tune & JB4 high boost/misfire issues by going to colder plugs with tighter gaps...it's a freaking monster at 20psi!!

Yes, they're a two step colder plug.
