few 01 X5 3.0 questions

hello we have a 2001 x5 3.0i.

it has 134k on the odometer.
few problems:
bought it a few years ago and it has been fine until about a year ago. the ingine light has been on and it seems to be very sluggish once in a while now....you can floor it and it hesitates Very bad....

second issue has just arrived... you have to insert the key and turn the car to "on" position leave for about 10 seconds and then can go ahead and start...if you insert key and instantly start it will fire up but then immediately die...

Third issue:if you turn key and start and it dies when you start up the second time in comes alive but has lights everywhere for DSC and break lights and seems like the actually brakes are engaged and locked automatically....also happens while driving at low speeds randomly....pull over turn off, remove key, insertr key slowly start and it runs fine until the next time...seems to be more sluggish then ever though or we are just getting used to it...

we had the codes checked and the only codes where for a loose sealing gas cap, and the thermostat.

any help would be great as right now i dont have alot of money to let he dealership charge me $$$$$$ to fix it.
Thanks!

Do you have any codes referencing misfires in the cylinders?

Generally when a car becomes sluggish it might be a sign of a failed mass air flow meter.
Also seen once it was a badly blocked fuel filter.

You should check your 'DISA Valve', very common problem, it happened to me.
It is mounted on the intake valves, and OEM part is roughly around $150 CND, and change it yourself cause it literally takes 5 mins.

I'll research the disa valve, I got the codes today it is the emissions fuel cap, cam shaft position sensor and p0604... The car is in a different state and I'm in the military and can't get home to really look at it

Have the CEL code read and go from there. Right now, everyone is trying to diagnose your car over the internet, which doesn't help.
