Haters, shut-up. This car is perfection, and due to all this negativity, we'll again get boring and ugly BMW's, like the M4, X5/6 and new 7 Series.

This is the "Opposite of Hommage". It gives me a pretty clear idea of today's BMW's marketing team think about the company's history.

Look. It's no secret which demographic bmw has worked hard to get with all the recent changes such as lifeless steering, fake vents and ducts, badges everywhere, cf for no reason, and vinyl stickers.

This CSL homage is the natural next step in reaching their ultimate goal.

No I am not being facetious

Wow what a hated and biased article.
It had its usual BMW hate shopping list namely Bangle. It has become taboo to blame Bangle for everything when he was just doing his job to great success as it drove sales up to which there was no great loss as result of media feedback as the good thing about participating in a global market is that what does not work in one market could work in about 5-10 others.

Please pray that some of you did not respond to that piece of nonsense because Bangle did have a hand in many of the cars mentioned in the comments that individuals think they have a Bangle-Free car.

Well it's got a big enough grille for those complicated engines Mercedes is going to come out with that need extra cooling.

As for a real homage, I understand Henrik Fisker is looking for a new design job. The guy can't run a car company (although he can sell stock) but he is a design genius. He could give us something as clean and pure as an homage to this:

Sounds like a lot of people here should just stick with an E46 3-series or an E39 5-series and call it a day. You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. There are definitely elements of this design that don't strike my fancy right away, but overall, I think the car has genuinely gorgeous lines.

As much as everyone is hating on the grill, I think there are aspects of this design that could really improve the current 6-series. Starting with the E63, the brow-line of the 6-series featured headlights that raised above the kidneys. This follows the design language of "angry" looking grills that are prevalent across the industry. If you look at the E24 (and the E29 & E30 for that matter), you'll notice that the top of the kidney grills are even with, or a little higher than, the brow-line. The hommage concept eschews the scowl-faced grill design and brings back the more leveled image of the original BMW designs that many of us fell in love with as kids (or young adults). This is a welcome, change, IMO. Having said all that the kidney grills on this concept are just HUGE. Thankfully, we won't see that on a production BMW any time soon. Hopefully we'll see something in between the hommage concept and tpowerdinny's renditions.

I also think that the 6-series could benefit from some of the shapeliness of the hommage concept. I mean, look at the overhead shot of the concept and compare that to the F06 GranCoupe top-down (couldn't find an F12 coupe).

The interior cannot go unmentioned either. Fucking. Incredible. I think the i3 has the best looking interior of any BMW produced today. I think it's even cooler than the i8 interior, and I've physically sat in both. The i8 is gorgeous, but the design of the i3 trumps it, IMO. The i3 is the future that was promised to me back when I first went to the Miami International Auto Show with my dad at the age of 12. The interior in the hommage concept takes that design to the next level. I love the wood arc with the ///M color edge paint. It's just spectacular. BMW should bring as much of this design language as they can to their production line-up. Post haste!

Gotta talk about dem front fenders tho Yikes. I think the design team got a little too close to the project on those puppies. Some friends of mine who aren't really car enthusiasts refer to the overly complex ducting on current BMW designs as "skin flaps". There's something really disgusting about that term, but it colors my perception of design elements like the front fenders on this concept. I know it's just composite material molded in to elaborate shapes, but all I can think is "skin flaps".

Instead, I'll call it wrap-ducting, because it sounds less disgusting, and it lets me think about the design more objectively. If you look at photos taken directly from the front, you can see some very cool lines that are carried from the bumper all the way up to the part that folds over the hood. This design is mirrored in the rear; where I think it works much better. For some reason, the front just doesn't work for me. I think they could have carried that line up in to the hood with some more subtlety. The ducting on the front edge is just a bit much.

Overall, I like it thought. From afar, it's a really great looking car.

Chris Bangle is in my opinion the most important and influential designers of the past 20 years. What a crap article.

That M1 hommage was done right. The 328 hommage is stunning. This E9 hommage is simply no good.

He could run a car company, what he can't is start a car company, and I am certain all other guys than run car companies, would be even worse at starting their own car companies.

It definitely has some interesting angles - some good, some not so good. I am not a fan of the kidneys, but the side view is very nice.

Those seats though!
