Not sure how I ended up with it, but I LOVE IT

Hi all, been reading posts on here for a while and finally decided to share my "boring" story.

Quick history of cars I've owned:

92 Toyota Tercel – shared with my bro during university days .. Maybe 5 hp all together :-)
97 Honda Civic Sedan - my first car after graduating .. It was an accident car, so got it for cheap
02 Honda Civic Sedan – First big (over $10Gs) car purchase shared, with my wife
2000 Toyota Camry – bought off a friend after the 97 civic was done
2012 Dodge Journey - traded in the Camry a we now have 2 kids and needed something bigger

With the exception of the Journey, all cars mentioned above average cost to own (including the purchase money) was ~$1200/year.

So based on this info, you can probably make out what kind of guy I am. Very conservative guy who's never believed in paying too much money for a car, you know the whole: bad investment talk mentality

Well that all changed 3 weeks ago when I picked up my brand new Twin Turbo v8 2013 X5 50i !!!!!!!!!! How and I why? Don't know, and actually don't care cause I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

Here's what it came with:

X5 xDrive50i
M Sport Package
Executive Edition
Comfort and Technology Package
3rd Row Seats
Dynamic Handling Package
Metallic Paint
Nevada Leather
Comfort Seats
Dark Bamboo Wood Trim
Rear DVD Entertainment System

See you have to understand that just the heads up display was enough to blow my socks off. But driving it 600 KM from the dealership to home, felt like it's just hovering, makes you lose all sense on why you bought it.

I'm finally one of those guys that wake up and look forward to driving their car!

In summary, I just wanted to introduce myself I guess,` and ask for your patience if I have any noob questions in the future.

That looks great! Unfortunately, you probably won't get to see it look like that for long based on the snow/salt this year! What did you do for winter tires?

Thanks! I've been trying to wash it on a weekly basis to keep the salt off.

As for winter tires, I haven't done anything yet. Everyone is short on stock and offering what's at the bottom of the barrel. There's been two big snow storms since I bought the car, on those days I hitch a ride with the wife as she works cross the street.

This winters winding down but seeing that you live in Canada I'd highly recommend a dedicated winter tire or an A/S tire at the very least. The summers are just about useless in the winter. Congrats on the new ride!

Absolutely. The plan is to get winter's, but when stock is full. Since I have a backup plan for the snowy/icy days, I think it can wait until next year. It also costs $4,899+13% Tax (local BMW shop), so yeah, no rush ;-)

Congrats on the V8. It's quite a vehicle other than the fuel consumption

Time to tune it!

Are they gold-plated?
Why shop for tires at the dealership? They have crazy markups. Not to mention the fact that they are not tire experts (compared to any dedicated tire shop).

Congrats on the purchase!

Don't buy your tires at the dealership!

Save $3500 + Tax and order online rims and tires.
