Ventilated Seats - do they really do anything? Took a ride, not sure.
To make a long story short, I had a 2010 X5M that was involved in an accident and been driving a Cayenne TT since. Cayenne is a really nice car, but lacks soul, grit, noise and sounds. My prior M didn't have comfort seats or leather dash. Had cold weather, drivers assistance, rear climate, comfort access, soft close, premium sound and some other small options.
Looking to get back into a X5M and know for sure I want comfort seats. A few cars I have driven had the vent seats and I made sure to test them out. Took a 30 minute drive in a car I am looking at and to be honest they made more noise than really felt like they were ventilating anything. Kept on high, 3 bars for the entire ride. I have had cooled seats (Escalade and Cayenne) and you could really feel them. I realize these are not cooled seats. I have read all the reviews and many people say must have. Some say they are okay, some say don't really do much. I realize they is was only mid 50's when I test drove the car but I didn't feel a thing. Unless I am missing something, I am in the cool if you find a car that has them but not sure they are must have which would open a few more cars up for me to choose from. Thoughts...... I am missing something? Edit- I had a 2007 E60 M5 in FLA with comfort vent seats that didn't do much. Are these the same seats? Last edited by Michael_s; 03-30-2014 at 06:16 PM.. |

You will be missing a sweaty back and shirt in the summer if you have ventilated seats. They don't do jack in the winter.

Thx. I didn't really have that prob with the base seats for 2 summers. Sure there were times I was hot and took some time to cool but not a constant prob.

Use mine everyday here in Hawaii. They keep you from sweating but are by no means air conditioned seats. One you realize that you might like them more. Used to get swamp ass wet shirt syndrome driving around. Not anymore with this car.

They really do help when it's hot and muggy out, or if you get into the car hot and sweaty...over time, they'll dry you out, otherwise, you'll just stay that way with typical leather seats. You might not notice much if your drive isn't that long, and I rarely need it on high.

I love this option in mine. Keeps you just cool enough on those hot days so you don't get sweaty shirt. they do make a fan noise, but not a big deal for me.

Thx for feedback so far. I will certainly be happy if I get them and I'm sure they do serve a purpose. My M will be more my winter car. I don't think its a "must have" but nice to have living in NE.

I have the Active Ventilated seats in mine. So it has the massager as well as well as the cooled seats. Nice option to have, but it's not do or die for me.

The massaging seat is a must have if you drive long distances. Really does a great job of helping with ass fatigue.
