E70 Engine Looked Strange, Need Help

This might be a silly question, but why this 2011 X5 engine looked this way, advice needed. I'm interested in it and asked dealer, but they did not explain.

Yup. The turbos are right there and the cover has some heat resistant stuff on the underside. It gets quite hot. You might melt the paint on the hood without it
