2011 BMW X5 Engine Malfunction Warning!
Has anyone ever experience and engine malfunction warning?
Yesterday I was driving on the NJ Turnpike with my pregnant wife. We were cruising along doing 70mph in the express lane and all of a sudden the engine malfunction light comes on and tells me to reduce power. We lost complete power of the car. Luckily we were able to get to the shoulder of the road. This is my first CPO BMW X5. It only has 25k. It is still under warrenty. Does anyone know what could of caused this? Besides putting low grade fuel in it. I've only had the car 3 weeks and filled up twice with premium gas. Will the dealership fix the problem for free? Don't get me started with roadside assistance. That is a scam! Last edited by JimsDi; 03-16-2014 at 11:06 AM.. |

That actually happened to me in my 2008 335xi when it was around 30k miles. I was on the highway cruising at about 70. I pulled over and turned the car off and turned it back on and it was gone. I took it to the dealer the next day and they couldn't recreate the problem but they changed out the HPFP and updated the software.

this is just limp mode, car does it when it senses anything wrong to make sure components don't sustain further damage. either read codes with ODB cable or take it to dealer, you should be fine. don't freak out too much until you know what exactly is wrong, with this mileage it should all be covered too so nothing to be too worried about!

Had it happen to my M when cruising. I drove it to the dealer. They were able to recreate it: changed the HPFP. Have been driving it for the past 2 months...No problems so far(touch wood)....
Seems pretty common with the X5. There is a thread on here with other people having the same issue. As long as it is under warranty u are OK. I will not drive this vehicle out of warranty. Will need to get an extended warranty next year.... |

I recently had the same problem, turned out to be a cracked vacuum line above the turbos. Quit common on the X5s as I found out.

Hi everyone. I picked up the car today and was told that the problem with it was due to the Valve tronic relay being loose. Would this be something on the CPO checklist?
This is what was stated on the service report; LOOSE WIRE CONNECTOR X60182 PIN 2 RAN FAULT TEST CONNECTED CHARGER PER TEST PLAN PERFORMED PROGRAMMING WITH CAS CAR WOULD STILL NOT START TESTED VALVE TRONIC MOTOR REMOVED HARNES FOR VALVE TRONIC MOTOR INSPECTED AND TESTED HARNESS TESTED FUSES TESTED VALVE TRONIC RELAY FOUND LOOSE WIRE AT VALVE TRONIC RELAY REPAIRED LOOSE WIRE PIN 2 CONNECTOR X60182 |
