Black style #215 rims/tires bought for an 08 X5 fot an 11 X6?
Does anyone know if I will run into issues with the TPMS if I were to buy 215 rims/tires which were originally bought for an 2008 X5 and put them on my pre-prod 10/10 2011 X6? I'm just trying to avoid issues with the sytemt not working properley. |

The TPMS monitors are supposed to work. They changed some time during 10/2010.
I actually have wheels from an 2011 X6 being installed on my 2008 X5. I checked one TPMS monitor (front wheel) and it worked just fine -- so the wheels must have come off a pre-Oct 2011 build X6. (I did the full TPMS reset and driving around to make sure that there were no errors.) |

So X5 wheels work on a X6 but not vice versa?

Curious about this exact topic as well. The center bore measurements are different from an X5 to an X6. 72.5 to 74 to be exact. Will style 215 wheels from an X5 fit on a new X6?

Doug,
I thought the OP's question was only around TPMS monitors. X6 and X5M rear wheels are different to X5. These Front and Rear numbers are the "center bore". ................Front.......Rear...........Bolts E70 X5.....74 mm.....74 mm........M14X1.25 X5M.........74 mm.....72.50 mm....M14x1.25 E71 X6......74 mm....72.50 mm....M14x1.25 I bought a set of X6 wheels. I'm having the rear wheel hubs bored out from 72.5mm to 74.1mm so they'll fit my X5. As you can see above, all the fronts are the same 74mm. I do not recommend that anyone do what I did; rather get the right size wheels. Note: I understand that some after-market rears fit X5, X6, and X5M. My references above to BMW OEM wheels. The OP actually said " if I were to buy 215 rims/tires which were originally bought for an 2008 X5 and put them on my pre-prod 10/10 2011 X6" So while his question was on the TPMS, it sounds like he is looking at 215 rims/tires and I guess I wanted to make sure he knew they would not fit (I was not sure - but you have clarified).

Well short of not using a table for your measurements (I don't know how to do it either ), I don't know how your response could have been any clearer. BTW, how did you find someone to bore out the wheels?

I think that one has to contact up-market wheel shops and find out if they do it. I couldn't find one in CT! |
