The X5M only has a different rotor size and caliper bracket and considering the front does most of the stopping it wouldn't be much of an improvement if you just did the rears.

Well the X5M shares the same master cylinder so if you are looking for a properly functioning OEM bbk that will bolt on, X5M is the way to go.

Ah ok. I was reading it differently. Unfortunately I think your option is to go full Brembo BBK or stick with stock. Going with 4 piston setup in the rear will inevitably change the braking bias therefore requiring a different proporting valve. Of course if the fluid displacement is the same you might be ok but These are things to consider.

Ok. I don't think my first post was clear enough. I have an X5M and am looking at upgrading the rear brakes to a 4 piston caliper setup...

I'm not trying to put X5M brakes on a regular X5.
Well you also have to be carful of your brake bias and may need a brake controller to make sure the rears aren't over torqued with a bigger rear setup, Not saying that is the case but sometimes the front and rear have been tested so they work in harmony and if over done can affect performance and drivability.

But the cars abs system may make it a non issue.

In that case good luck. I haven't seen anything, just the aftermarket BBK kits being used and people doing X5M conversions.

I'm aware of the potential bias issues if ignored but am able to resolve that if I find that there is a rear caliper option that I want to pursue. My question here is about hardware, not theory.

Ok then sounds like it's time to get creative then! you sound like an ass with that comeback, probably not what you intended but posts have a way of not conveying emotion very well.
have fun searching.

Sorry we could not give you what you want.

Spend the 4 to 5k on the brembo kits as they have been tested front and rear and will work well. But the Brembo BBK is actually 5mm smaller than stock in rotor size so just the caliper gets bigger. Lots of money for small return but that's your prerogative. I personally think the rotors are what fills in the wheels nicely not the caliper.

If your just looking for looks they sell glue on style covers on eBay ! Lol. Sorry about that I had to... regardless, as small as the carrier is for the stock rear caliper you would have to purchase the rear caliper and make a custom mount.

Problem is if the rotor isn't the right width for the aftermarket caliper it could be an issue but it would probably work. Unless you used the rotor that came with the kit but then your rotors would not match.

I made custom carriers for my Z4 3.0i to carry 135i 6 piston calipers to mate up to the Z4M rotor so anythings possible.

Sky's the limit if you want to throw money at it.

Here was my project from years ago when I was relocated to Chicago. Because I did my own engineering and fabrication of the caliper carrier it was a relatively cheap mod, otherwise it can get expensive quickly and possibly dangerous if you don't know what your doing.

One does not simply bolt on a "4 piston," caliper without taking into account brake bias.

Brakes work as a system. Smaller piston, more piston force; larger piston, less force. Playing with a MC size can affect pedal effort.

More pistons, means smaller pistons, meaning more piston force; not better braking. Just more even application of force to the pads.

Most modern cars have a heavy front bias, something 90%+ of braking is up front, and the rears account for around 10% of your braking force. Fiddling with this willy nilly is playing with your life. Think about this as you go down this path...

Really don't know what else you are looking for here as it's obvious to me that you already got your answer. I think the difference between this forum and the M3 is that you're likely talking with a different demographic most on this forum likely being older and owning an X5 as a family hauler. I guess my point is most here probably consider function over form and that is why we either see X5M conversions or Brembo BBK as the only options. Let's not forget the M3 market for aftermarket options is also much larger.

Had you done your due diligence and searched first, this thread wouldn't exist and you wouldn't feel the need to rely on the snide retorts in your posts.

People don't know your life, they are merely offering opinions regarding safety.

But if you're so hurt by the fact that people don't know your credentials, why don't you upload your resume so we know what kind of badass we're dealing with...SMDH...

I'm replying to what you wrote before you edited your post.

Your frustration is understandable, and while you didn't find your answer, the responses you got were with best intentions.

Having said that, I would also suggest you keep the thread open and maybe label it "E70/71 X5/6 M Rear Caliper Upgrade" or something to that effect.

I'd love to know where this journey takes you...I'm sure a lot of people on here feel the same.
