Audio upgrades?
Whoops! It turns out I do have the premium (logic 7) audio system. So now my question is...Anybody have any suggestions on upgrading the logic 7 system?
I've come across the JL Audio Stealthmod on a few boards and it was also Crutchfield's suggestion. I would probably buy it with the Stealthbox subwoofer as well if I went that route. Has anyone installed this? Any feedback would be great! Last edited by kctoothdr; 07-02-2013 at 06:54 PM.. Reason: Error in my original posting |

I had to call around to a few shops in NJ before I found one that would work on the '13 X5 35d. I eventually found a shop that does custom audio work that will be upgrading the truck's base system dramatically. They're going to put in a JL Audio system using CleanSweep sound processors, 4" coax speakers in the doors, 6.5" mid-ranges under the front seats and 1" tweeters in the front doors. It will also have 2, 10" enclosed subs behind the rear seat. The system will be powered by 2, 4 channel amplifiers and one mono amp for the subs. If that's the kind of thing you're looking to do, it probably makes sense to have it professionally done. I've worked on my other vehicles in the past and have done a good job, but this car is designed not to be taken apart and upgraded, so it would be a tough install to do by yourself.
If you want to do something a little more simple, check out Bavarian Sound Werks, they make replacement speakers for the base system and can provide you with a tool kit and instructions for the removal of the door panels and old speakers. |

Update: I pulled the trigger on the JL Audio Stealthmod + Stealthbox subwoofer. I'm thinking about doing the install myself but I'm a lil nervous...the only thing I've done myself to the truck so far is plug and play with the Lux V4 angel eyes.
Anyone have any tips or advice? BennyT3 thanks for your response to my original post. |

Definitely going to be watching this thread. Where did you buy it and how much did it cost you? I have the base hifi system in my X5 and I think it sounds OK (I came from a Dodge Ram) but a little more bass never hurt anyone.

Not meaning to thread jack but it won't allow me to post a new topic. I was wondering if this part no. Will fit my 2008 4.8i with premium sound without satellite. I have a guy that says he can code it for me and if this fits it will save me lots of time and headache from going to the dealer.

JL Audio StealthMod
Good timing! I just got the stealth mod and stealth box subwoofer last night. Pic of the contents (minus the sub) and install instructions.
It actually didn't look too bad as a DIY but I'm trying to find an aftermarket wiring harness so i won't have to cut into the wiring at the factory amplifier. Anyone know where I can find one or if one even exists? |

Cant wait to hear more about the install and sound. In the E60 M5's a bunch of guys were doing the Bavarian Soundwerks upgrades- and they seemed to have positive results- but nothing earth shattering. VERY interested in hearing about this JL upgrade though- keep us posted! Also looks like JL and crutchfield are running a summer 15% off sale....
