X5M Owners - What's difference between X5M and 5.0?

Hey X5M Owners!

Does anyone know specific differences between the X5M and the X5 5.0?

I have the 5.0.

about $15K and the M button....just two things that come to mind. I wish I had an M button....instead, I got a 5.0 and $15K change.

About 150 hp. $20k and a lot of torque and fun. Also, quad tailpipes, aggressive looks and the ///M features.

Actually, both the xDrive 50i and the X5M use a 4.4L turbo-charged engine so the difference would be either 0.6 or 0.0 depending if you use the bagde name or the engine displacement.

If you have the money, then the X5M is well worth the premium to me.

I chose the M over the 5.0 after driving them both and finding the M to be in another league. It just satisfies on so many levels.

Your mileage may vary, but I traded in my 1 year old M3 on it and I do not miss the M3.........Steve

How did BMW boost the horsepower so much in the X5M? What sppecifically did they change? Does the X5M have a electrical water pump too? (2011)

Also, is there a way to tell if an X5 has had the water pump replaced?

What everyone else has said,...plus, "Night and Day"! Really,...don't drive one if you don't plan to buy one! In fact,..don't ever drive an ///M vehicle if you don't ever plan to buy one!

...in parting, I will leave with this,...as some may concur,..."it's a thrill a minute",...and yet others may argue,..."a thrill a second"!

Google it. Tried to post a link but this site is wiping out the sites name? Weird.

Looks like they have more than 1 electric pump.

"Together with other features, a second low-temperature radiator with an additional electrical coolant pump improves the intercooling function on the new M TwinPower Turbo. This optimises the performance of indirect intercooling in particularly dynamic driving cycles. And last but not least, an additional electrical coolant pump with an after-running function serves to cool the bearing mounts on the turbochargers after switching off the engine."

Every time I read posts from members I keep discovering new issues

I'll let BMW answer.

"This section of Fast Facts 2012 focuses on the features and attributes that distinguish the two M models from their X5 and X6 50i counterparts; these are listed in the Key features summary beginning on the next page."

Actually, the 50 and M use different Engines. The 50 uses the N63B44 engine whereas the M uses the S63B44 engine. The heads of the S63 are different, and the exhaust manifold as well as the turbos are completely different

The N63 has had its share of reliability issues, especially in the E70. I'm not sure about the reliability of the S63, though.

Just my $0.02 (well, $0.03).
