Exhaust Fumes in Cabin - Beware
Hey fellas,
Just an FYI. We have a 2011 X5 5.0 that we bought new in October of 2010 and we now have 75,xxx miles on the vehicle. We had an issue with exhaust fumes coming into the cabin through the vents. The problem turned out to be an oil vent line that travels through the V of the motor near the turbos which are extremely hot. Evidently, the heat shields can only do their job for so long. The vent line was compromised, leaking oil which was pulled through the cabin air system. We also had to have the vacuum pump seals replaced for the brakes, which also sits in the V close to the turbos and was compromised due heat. Total bill was $1700 under my aftermarket warranty. My SA tells me that this is a maintenance item though, and everyone with a 5.0 X5 will experience it eventually. So, you heard it hear first...
