X6M gone after 2 weeks

Hi

Had X6M for 2 weeks, decided to return to M3,got new one coming in two weeks.

My wife has X5 LCI Diesel (The kiddy wheels) and here in the UK there is really no point in having this monster, roads just not big enough and therefore thrills are limited.

I had M3 which was returned due to major oil leaks, got X6M as need jerk reaction.

I wish I had the road you guys have to exploit the cars ability, its a shame.

Liked
The look

Straight line performance

Refinement

Disliked

Fuel consumption

Lack of Aural drama

Gear change response when in M Mode

This was a great car and will miss the overall package but IMHO not for UK

You guys enjoy them as they they are fab, I am off back to the M3 .

Last I checked an M3 sucked as much petrol as a M5/6.

So I don't think you are going to gain much there. Unless of course you drive the M3 like an old lady.

Yeah, I am having trouble following the logic of replacing the M for another M because there aren't enough open roads to drive on...

What do you plan on doing with the M3 that you were unable to do in the X6M?

Back to M3 after X6M

Hi All

Firstly the X6M is a truly great car, an engineering marvel,I have had one of the first X6's( 35d) back in 2009 it was great.

But at the same time we have also had a E70,in fact we are on our third since 07.

My first M was a M3 which I purchased on the 28th September 2011! It has some real issues, two oil leaks from new, it was returned to BMW a month after. But I loved its raw experience.

The X6M was a reaction to the issues with the M3, and I should have given the purchase more thought.I wanted a small powerfull car and liked the idea of having the last of the V8 Naturally aspired engine, but forgot that after weeks of shit from the issues from the M3. My mistake.

I was tempted by the price normally £87,700 I got £34,000 off it but they are giving them away here at the moment.Granted BMWs help due to the M3 issue was £11k!

So after a week of owning it, the compact size, and raw performance experience of the M3 was lacking. An obvious statement I know.

The X6M is a fast as an M3, and all weather fast! but its big and heavy.
i
Its not what I really wanted, and in the UK its not anymore usable than the wife's X5 3.0D.

Fuel comsumption was very simlar to the M3,but when pushed the M3 is more fun in IMHO, (this really is not a major issue) but if its going to drink gas I want a smile on my face when I leave the car,the X6M is too refined and safe to give you that.

The noise on the M3 is fab, less so in the X6M, ALTHOUGH still good.

So you guys enjoy the X6M its really great, if I did not have the X5 I would have kept it.

I simply should have ordered another M3, GOT THIS ONE WRONG!

It was fun, and certainly shocked some of the other motorists who though they had a quick car! The X6M is a beast and that will be my overall memory of that great car.

Bring on the M3!

I don't drive like an old lady so mpg is academic but the fun factor is there in the M3.

As for doing something different in the M3 compared to X6M, one of the other positives of the M3 is parking, over in the UK space is a premium and I park off street when I go to work, so I can really park it in space that the X6M would need three weeks in a boby shop to repair if I tried!

Thanks for you replies

Cool

Interesting, I'm actually considering the opposite: trading in my M3 & X5 for an X6M. I don't need 2 cars, I love my X5 but its at 83k miles and pushing it, and I don't really drive the M3 enough although it sure is an experience when I do! I haven't driven an X6M yet, so maybe a test drive might change my mind? How do you think the steering feel compares?

Thanks,
Ian

X6M Back to M3

I think the idea of trading the two in for the X6M sounds good.If you have not been able to use the M3 and quite rightly should do something about it.

The X6M is great, no issues with steering in my brief ownership, its a fab car but if I have to make the choice and have just one car in would be an X5/6,not the M version in the UK.

But I just want that personality that excists in the M3.

Hope the X6M test drive goes well,if new I would wait for the L.C.I

I'm actually thinking about picking up the M3 in addition to my X6 50i. I've realized that with Chicago weather, it is REALLY hard to have the best of both worlds (granted, the M might have been a step in that direction compared to the 50i). But I had a 335xi loaner and fell in love with the size, handling, and overall wonderfulness of the car.

However, now that the weather is turning, I'm really starting to enjoy the X6. Very comfortable, great torque, nice sound.

And then suddenly my dealer gets a M3 in stock that is basically what I would configure myself (still not sure if I want the CF roof or the sunroof) and now I'm thinking "What a perfect fun car" and seeing as it might be the last NA V8 engine from BMW for a long while.......

Doug-999 two cars is overrated. Get the x6m. I'm loving one car albeit the 5.0 but I don't miss the rrs or 335i one bit.

Thats a shame, sorry to hear you weren't able to enjoy it very much! Id have to agree with earlier replies; I sure didn't get a BMW for good gas mileage, but its understandable that it IS a factor. Enjoy the M3!
