valve stem seals being replaced- other things to look for?

Yes, you heard it right. My 2012 X5 50i with 48.5K miles is having the valve stem seals done (BMW is goodwilling 95% of the repair - I'm told that it's 45hrs of labor )!! 2 weeks ago, the valve cover gasket was done ($2k+, Route 66 covered it).(http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=899708). This journey began as a chase of an intermittent sulfur/rotten egg odor that shows up in the cabin, and near the rear wheels. When they were diagnosing the issue two weeks ago, they thought it might be the oil leak due to VCG (though burning oil wouldn't smell like rotten eggs). The odor still appeared from time to time, so i took it back.

It was hard to reproduce the problem, and no error codes as well. They did the "drive for a while, and then idle for a while and accelerate" routine and found some smoke out of the exhaust. I don't think the leak is severe enough (i burn through 1 qt of oil every 3000 miles), but the current working theory is that the oil mixing with fuel is causing incomplete combustion, and the unburnt fuel is fouling up the catalytic converter causing the smell. Since they're goodwilling it (I asked for it - big shout out to BMW seattle for obliging), I'm OK to try this route.

My question to the forum members are:
1. While the engine is out, are there other maintenance items I could take care of (any belts, hoses, etc. that can be replaced?).
2. Since the fuel injectors will be taken out, will they normally be recalibrated upon reinstallation? Are there any test procedures for injectors that I can ask them to do? I didn't get new injectors as part of N63 CCP, as I already had index 11, so would be a peace-of-mind item for me.
3. any other suggestions?

TIA!

I haven't had this done yet, but my 2011 X5 5.0 is also blowing oily exhaust out the pipes. I'm up to $35,000 in repairs to date having replaced just about everything in this engine... welcome to club X5 5.0.

That's insane! Did you have to pay out of pocket? Hope you have decent extended warranty coverage, otherwise brace yourself for $6k - $8K in repairs to replace the valve stem seals. Thankfully, BMW good-willed 95% of it. Keep us posted.
