New Mercedes ML350 versus X5
I am just back from driving the new ML350 (out in Missoula, Montana) and coincidentally have an April production X5 diesel for a week as well.
The ML is going to be a strong competitor. The new diesel has 455 pound-feet of torque and it really shows. With 0-60 at 7.3, it's close to the X5 there too. The ML interior has been greatly improved and more equipment is standard. There are some new safety features such as Attention Assist (which I call Coffee Cup Assist) that aren't available from other carmakers incl. BMW. The price remains unchanged. I'll come back with more thoughts on the 2012 X5 after I spend more time with it (so far only an hour or so in the driver's seat). In the meantime, if you want to see more info on the ML350, my review and photos are online here.

The new M-Class was developed (at least at the beginning) while Chrysler was still part of Daimler, a spokesman at MB explained.

Your story is dated 7/17, while this thread is dated 7/18. You said, "I'll come back with more thoughts on the 2012 X5 after I spend more time with it (so far only an hour or so in the driver's seat)." I was wondering if you had any further impressions on ML350 BlueTEC vs X5 xDrive35d. Which would you buy?
