Customer Car - Code 2fa4, and DSC/4x4 malfunctions
Hi all,
I got a customer car in recently, and determined the CAS was bricked. He had someone (won't say who) come code a key. We believe they hooked a battery tender backwards. No dash lights would come on, and the car didn't react to the ignition button. Ordered a new CAS and key from BMW, and now it starts and moves, but in limp mode with code 2fa4. VTG (transfer case) module was also not reading 90% of the time in ista/d. We reprogrammed the entire car with an Autel Maxisys Ultra, and still to no avail. DME shows an incorrect data code, CAS says there is no coding (From BMW), and there are about 4 DSC/4x4 codes, which I believe are from the DME and CAS codes. I believe the powerclass doesn't match between the DME and CAS, but of course my ista/P is the only porgram not working. Trying to reinstall now. Any input appreciated! |

Found the issue! I found my COM port latency was at 16, switched it to 1ms. Modules were reading perfectly after. I was wondering why it would sometimes read the can layout fine, and other times it was challenging to even see all the modules.
Powerclass on the new CAS from BMW was coded to "invalid". Read the DME's power class as "00", and corrected the CAS to 00. Half check engine light came off, car had boost and drove great. Still smelled a clutch smell after a short test drive. The VTG module was causing dsc malfunctions, so I used INPA to code the 4 digits on the transfer case to the VTG since it was having problems, I believe it was the initialization procedure, and found it had the wrong transfer case programmed as well. After the procedure ran through the clutch tests, I had no CEL or codes! I don't know WHAT this cheap key guy did, but I'm happy to have found my solution. Customer is very grateful lol. |

This sounds like this could be the problem with the X5 I recently acquired has 4 dcs/4x4 fault codes after a new battery installed by previous owner and hasn't started since. Guy didn't wanna deal with it sold me the car for cheap thought he didnt register battery. But that wasn't issue found the rear tailgate module was fried most likely water damage replaced it as well as main DME relay and fuel pump relay as it didn't seem to be clicking checked every single fuse and it cracks but still no start. Kinda at a loss
