Just scheduled my appointment for the 0013300200 high pressure fuel pump replacement. Going in July 1st. SA said this was covered regardless of warranty status and is about a 2 hour job.

These constant N63 recalls are becoming quite the PITA.

how many recalls have there been? My build date is November 2010, and the only campaign or recall on mine was the recent one. What is your build date? My dealer claims that mine is not involved in the one you are referring to, and I called a second dealer to confirm this.

X5 recall

I brought my 2011 x5 5.0/ M package into Edmonton BMW as the engine light came on and when I gassed the throttle reduced engine power kept coming on. They did the N63 recall and tried to give me vehicle back. I left and hit the gas, the reduced power still came on, they took it back and replaced 2 coils...same thing happened. Now they say engine is done as they found metal shavings in oil filter. Warranty up 9 mnths ago and I only have 79000 km on car.....any ideas .... Now it's been in the shop for 6 weeks, they paying for rentals (which I'm on my 5th one) Anyone know of BMW replacing the motor because of these problems. Build date of June 6 2010

Hey all,
I called my dealer and he ran my VIN, my vehicle is NOT affected by this latest "recall".
My 2012 X5 50i M Sport has a build date of 02/2012.

Oil Consumption info going mainstream

This article came out today:
chicagotribune.com consumer reports story

I personally like BMW's response (not in this article) about these engines rarely being driven hard enough to be broken in properly, hence the oil consumption. I am doing my damnedest to change that!

I also love when this stuff is on Forums like this MONTHS ahead of it being public knowledge. Makes sense tho.

Had the high pressure fuel pump recall completed last week. Also had the plugs changed as it was about time (60k miles) and i saved about $300 doing it while the fuel pump was out.

Car is running about the same as it did since I purchased it a year ago. Changed oil at 55k and had to add a quart at 57k, 59k and now 60k.

Sorry to hear of all your troubles guys. I have been in the market for an LCI X5 and after test driving the 50i I thought I was set. That changed quickly. After seeing all the issues pop up and the hassles with this engine I ended up going the diesel route. Seems like BMW has had a lot of issues making a reliable V8 lately.

Car is great honestly but I don't want to be in the shop constantly. Takes the joy out of driving the car. I think I should have gone Diesel route also as I hear it has LOTS of TQ

There's definitely some forum members having issues with the V8, and that's outside the N63 campaign. I think it depends on the individual's tolerance threshold for dealing with this stuff. Some want to throw in the towel almost immediately after a trip or two to the dealer.

Mine's been in the shop a few times, but only for the N63 campaign work. The dealer is close by and I get a nice service loaner so I'm not bothered by it. I love the power and sound of the V8, which for me outweighs a few trips to the dealer now and then. Maybe bigger & more continuous issues would change my perspective? I could have bought a Highlander or something similar, and never need to visit the dealer, but I wouldn't be excited/happy driving it I don't think.

Your 50i has more torque than the diesel. And quite a bit more HP. But yah more engine problems

3 trips to the dealer less than 2 months of owning is a pain. I got the N63 CCP done and then engine power malfunction and 4 days later FRM module is shot. I probably drove the car max 10 times since May. Now this little beauty is sitting in the parking lot collecting the rain drops of Virginia. Maybe just my luck with cars.

I have a feeling that I should have stuck with a Silver car color as none of them gave me problems from Civic, E55, and CLS55. Maybe just a superstition of mine LOL!

For me I couldn't help but think about the long term issues. Sure BMW is doing their part with the recall but after the recall is done and the parts/service warranty has expired, then what?
