Oil Change period ?

Hi Im just cruious about the maintainence coverage of my BMW X6 50I

the dealer says the warranty covers free oil change at 20000KM

do I have to change oil before that in a period of 6000km or so ? or I simply follow the instruction from dealer ?

Will it harm the engine?

Lightbulb

I thought it was every 24,000 or 12 months.
I just brought mine in for a free oil change with 14,000km after 12 months

I do my own oil chages. Lets say my cars at 0 miles I do it at 7k miles, I don't reset the oil service counter on the car then when it suggests I need to do it I do it again and then I reset it. Then in 7k miles I do it again and the cycle starts over. I think oil should definitely be changed more frequently than 12k miles or 15k or whatever BMW suggests

I follow the bmw computer...so every 15K. They should be covered to 50K miles I thought....i took out the extended warrant/servicing package when I bought it so I'm covered up to 100K.

the new Toyota's are every 10K miles now as well....

Nope, 20k Km is right about 12k miles. Sounds right on schedule to me. The Condition Based Service (CBS) computer monitors sensors and driving conditions to determine the correct change interval for your car. As long as you aren't ignoring the computer, you should be fine.

Now if you will sleep better at night changing the oil more frequently than that go for it. I've always followed the computer or at least once per year. Whichever comes first.

Go buy that 50i and get driving already.
