i am coming off a 335xi lease and was debating between an x6 50i and a 2011 Cayenne S. First of all, for those talking about the 2010 cayenne interior, the 11 is a monstrous improvement.
I ended up going with the Cayenne S for the following reasons: -preferred the interior cockpit like feel of the Cayenne to the x6. I'm just not that big of a fan of the x interiors. I like the direct access to functions that the layout of the Cayenne inteior had. I really don't like the i drive system, even though i got it to do what it had to on the 335, just never liked it. -i hate hate hate the current bmw electronic shifter. i'm coming from 18 years of driving manual and just hate it. my mother has an x5 and i just really dislike driving it. i guess i'd probably get used to it, but i just can't stand it. -after having a turbocharged bmw engine with all the fuel pump issues (i had the pump replaced twice, plus separate incidents that required all 6 injectors to be replaced, and various pieces of the exhaust system), i just wanted to stay away from the turbo bmw engines until it gets sorted out. even after the various services on the car, the 335 never ran right. the naturally aspirated V8 was the right fit for me. -since i lease cars, modifications are not an option for me. so dinan mods or anything like that are not a factor. I had nothing but problems with the run-flats on my 335. over the 3 year lease, had to replace 3 rims and 8 or 9 tires. i had the wheel and tire protection plan, but it still was a massive PITA. those rft's are exremely noisy after a while as well. not sure about the versions on the x6, but that was something i really disliked. -the back seat of the cayenne makes more sense. it is roomier than past model years and more comfortable for people to get in an out of. not the biggest deal, but a factor for me. also, my dog is in the car often and the dual-bucket back seat is not great for him. -i figured if i was getting something the size of an SUV, it should have the utility of the SUV and the abbreviated cargo area of the x6 obviously limits its utility to some degree. not a deal breaker on its own. -cayenne is much lighter and much more fuel efficient. all that being said, i really loved the looks of the x6 and still came very close to getting one. it was a really tough call for me. -damon |

Do, or do not. There is no 'try'.

My father just bought the new 2011 porsche cayenne turbo, I drove it from riyadh to dubai, it was amazing in the road. but my cousin just the cayenne s it is a completely deferent car, you will feel the deference in the handling specially is the corners. the cayenne turbo on the road never says no i was going 265-275 kph ( 160-175mph) very easily the car never says no.
the cayenne s in good, but when you compare it with the x6m, the x6m is much better. the x6m is power but the same as porsche cayenne turbo. Also the porsche cayenne turbo has a new power kit the get +50 hp, so that makes it 550 hp. |

also top gear australia tested 2011 cayenne turbo vs 2011 x5m, they made a quarter mile drag race between the two and it seems that the cayenne turbo was winning

Well I don't know if you've ever priced Cayenne Turbo brakes alone, but even motortrend reports a $7000+ cost of maint/ repairs over 5 yrs w/ avg of 15K miles per yr. source - http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2011/...650/index.html. An avg cost of $3K per yr is not an exaggerated number when you include tires, electronic glitches, new model bugs and a turbo.

Fully loaded...

My Fully Loaded jumps Te 2011 X6M to 111K - 112K minus 6K if you drop the rims... Fully Loaded to me = every option. What does it mean to you?

Let me check what options I excluded when I built mine. It certainly didn't have everything but it had most. I think most people don't mean every option when they say fully loaded, I think they mean that they got most of the options. At least for me, if I exclude the spare tire and the bluetooth connectivity but get everything else, this would still be a fully loaded car, as it would be for 99.999999% of people. But listen, this isn't worth an argument.

I guess we agree to disagree. I think the car with most options or without some of the smallest least expensive options is still a fully loaded car to me.
I came up with a $103K MSRP and I excluded the following options: - soft close doors (agree not a cheap option) - smart phone - 6-disc player I still got most of the options and packages. I find it difficult to say that the car I configured online is not a fully-loaded car if it includes: - Active ventilated seat package - Cold Weather Package - Driver Assistance Package - Premium Sound Package - Rear Climate Package - Comfort Access keyless entry - Nappa Leather Dashboard and Center Console - Rear seat entertainment - Space-saver spare |

Fully Loaded - Not Really Loaded

You are welcome to have your definition. I just wanted to understand your rationale.

X6M vs Cayenne Turbo(s) is a better comparisson than the X6M vs Cayenne S. The difference in power alone is enough to render the Cayenne S usless and limp no matter what factors comes into play .

Good Comment
If the pricing or maintenance was better, the Cayenne would be a closer option for me as I like to try Porsche for the first time.

Cayenne Turbo is probably more appropriate when comparing with X6M, IMO really don't like the newe Cayenne's rear end, looks like a Japanese car or some sort, and the space in the backseat is bit too small as well..
btw, before i got my X6M, i was having difficulty to choose between Panamera S and X6M, from where i am from, they are actually in the same price range, but after test drive both, the 555hp X6M just rocks Pam S's ass, so if you are comparing Cayenne S with X6M, man, are you kidding? i don't think Panamera is ugly, is quite good looking |

Porsche Please
Get what you like. One of my family members ordered a white fully loaded cayenneS 2011. One more month till we get it.
I think that for the price of the two you're getting much more from the Porsche. Th only problem I can think of is that the BMW has free service in the US but the Porsche doesn't. I've always wanted the newest and greatest, the x5/x6 have been around for a while now in comparison the NEW cayennes.

My brother-in-law and I are both in the market for larger vehicles with increasing family size. We looked at all of the competitors: range rover, ml63, cayenne, but never found anything that was as much fun to drive as the x6m. Put my order in last week for one and hope to get it by the end of the year. I really like the aggressiveness and "refined brute force" that the x6m provides, but this is just personal preference (my brother-in-law went with escalade esv....please, dont ask). The porsche is refined and very nice on the interior, but I love the x6m. And really, my wife's lexus will be the daily baby hauler.....but just in case we are late for soccer practice......!
