X6M Oil Sample Analysis at 1320 Miles

I use Blackstone Labs to do my Aircraft Engine Oil Analysis at each oil change so I decided to get my new 2013 X6M on the plan as well. After a bit of research to ensure that I wouldn't be replacing a special break-in oil, I did an early oil change to get the factory oil out as soon as I hit the first break-in point for the X6M. (First Break-in milestone is 1200 miles, Final is at 3000 Miles). Anyway, here is the oil analysis report from Blackstone labs. I highly recommend them to anyone who is interested. I plan on collecting a sample at each oil change, sending it in for analysis, and keeping the reports with the vehicle documentation for resale...

Do you have any commentary on the report you published? I don't know anything about the topic, but your assessment may be helpful to me and others.

Thanks,

Blackstone always does a real nice job in explaining what they see. Not just giving the raw details, but also a human readable synopsis of what they found. Oil analysis is an effective method of determining your engine's health, including rings, valves, bearings, injectors, etc. They can tell a lot by looking at your oil.

In this case, my engine is reported to have less break-in metal content than what is average for the identical engine at 8500 miles. (Metal content should decrease as break-in progresses). I believe that this indicates that the break-in is going well or that tolerances in the initial assembly were better than average... In any case, they call it "better than average", so I am happy...

I ordered an X6M. Does this mean I have to get my oil changed at 1200 miles, 3000 Miles, and then 8500 Miles? I had a 2012 650i and it only required a 15000 mile oil change. Isn't this basically a improved version of that same engine? Forgive the ignorance, last time I saw a report like this it involved a DNA analysis and a not guilty verdict. That was also worth the money

The official oil change interval is 15K miles. Some folks like to change it earlier, especially during break-in...
