BMW Towing Packaged rear view camera questions

Hi folks.

I bought a 2013 x5d, it has the 3 camera "overhead view" option, the PO had the dealer install the factory hitch/harness/module. My question, I can't find any setting that changes the rear view to the "hitch" view. If I go in settings, it only gives me the option of the normal rear view or 3 cam overhead view. I did confirm the hitch module is installed and plugged in. What am I missing?

I think it’s just the reverse cam view but doesn’t set off the reverse proximity sensors. I’ve also got factory harness and programming.

It is supposed to rotate the cam and show a close up of the hitch area. I've seen a few that have posted pics but have not found any info on how to get that option. It doesnt show up in settings etc and nothing in any manual/lit etc that I've seen.

Can't imagine anyone would buy the harness/module just to silence the back up beeps

Interesting. I wonder if I’ve just never noticed it’s zoomed in. I do recall it shows a picture of a trailer hitch. It’s been a year since I’ve towed though. When I finish replacing the oil pan gasket I’ll try it out.

Dealership might not have coded it properly or you need to switch the backup camera view .

Thanks for the response. I call myself reading that entirely and will probably find the coding useful but I really just want to know from a owner who has used the rear view cam with tow package, what exactly does it do and where is that setting/switch supposed to be??? I have yet to find a single post that either shows the difference or where in settings does one get the option for "hitch" view. Nothing in iDrive, when reversing I only get top down or normal rear view. I could entirely be missing a step or where I should be looking but it boggles my mind there is no documentation from BMW describing much about the tow "package" or what exactly the module does besides generic "brake control for sway" and "turns off rear beep", especially give the cost for the hitch kit and install by dealer.

I havent coded a module in years so a bit nervous about jumping into that rabbit hole but guess thats my next step, just wanted to verify what the rear cam actually does.

Here you can find photos of the idrive screen. It is very useful when hooking up trailers which you can't move easily by hand. However, because the camera is not in-line with the hitch it is not perfect.

Thank you! that was exactly what I was looking for. Now, looks like I have some coding to do this coming week.
