Rear brake pad replacement cost at dealer

Hey guys,

Did a search and see that most of you guys do it yourself, but being that I don't have my own house and rent an apartment (no tools) I need to get them done.

I called Prestige BMW in Ramsey NJ and got a quote of 500 (pads only) unless he thought I meant rotors as well but I definitely didn't say rotors.

What should I expect for cost? I know 500 is too much, but what is reasonable from a stealer or a private mechanic.

Thanks again!

Have you considered an independent mechanic? It doesn't have to be a BMW specialist. Might as well be half that cost including the price of the pads.

Yea, I have considered it, and will probably go that route. Just don't know this area that well (from South Carolina)

agreed with finding an independent. Rear pads are a snap, no way it should cost $500.

Rear pads are pretty hard to screw up. Just buy the OEM ones from the Internet and take them to a mechanic to install.

Got another dealer to quote me 360 for rear pads, sounded more like it. I'll probably do private mechanic, but I have to order the parts first. Should I go through BAVauto or any others worth mentioning for the pads and sensors?

I recommend Zimmermann rotors. German quality. Any of the pads listed will do. Jurid is closest to OEM.

You can get them here, as well as all the other parts you need. Free shipping - https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/X5...&m=1596&page=1

Do you need front rotors and brake pads?

If you do, I have a complete set for sale - http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...46&postcount=1

I'm in PA. Can meet you half way ...

My fronts were replaced from where I bought it, they just forgot the rears (or did them but forgot the sensors)

I want to take a look underneath as well when I can on a lift, but I don't have anywhere in my place to lift it and take the wheels off to look.
