CIC Black Screen No Audio

Hello,

Recently had my CIC stop working - I've got a black screen with no audio. CIC does light up when lights are turned on, and I can hear the hard drive trying to reboot every 30 seconds to no avail.

My question is should the CIC be working if you remove the HDD? I cannot confirm whether the CIC should work without the hard drive (minus radio and nav) or not work at all if the hard drive is removed.

Turns out my battery is OEM and 10 years old - going to replace this first and see if the CIC/hard drive were having power issues but if someone could confirm the operation of the CIC without a hard drive present that would be great because it would help me narrow it down to the CIC or hard drive failing.

Thanks.

Check Fuse 142/20A, Trunk...symptoms: monitor blank, no sound/audio. Usually happens when installing an Android Monitor, but worth a shot to check.

I checked all the fuses associated with the CIC - they all "look" good but I am going to double check with a fuse tester.

Perfect. So highly likely either a power issue or my HDD died - I don't think it's the CIC. Do you know where to find an image if my HDD corrupted? I've seen a ton of misinformation and vague details on programming but nothing concrete.

Awesome, thanks. If I have questions for the coding - is this a good place to ask or is there a forum for coding questions with INPA etc...I'm assuming my nav and other things won't work if I take someone else's CIC image and put it on a new hard drive.

Here is fine, but you may not get the proper answers as this is an E70 specific forum. My suggestion is to use google to your advantage here. Everything I've learned about coding comes from there first, then it will direct you to the proper forums. All the information you need is out there. INPA is not a coding program, btw.

As for the hard drive image I posted (well the torrent file. It is safe btw. I created it yesterday) You will have to find a hard drive to "copy" it to. I would suggest using linux for this. You may get lucky, but it seems Windows just doesn't work no matter what you do.

How computer savvy are you?

As for the NAV. I can't remember specifically whether it will work right away or not. The image I posted is not FSC locked so it might work without any further intervention.

I have read some topics online about taking an image and putting it onto a new HDD - I just remember people saying their radio and nav didn't work and needed to get some codes from INPA and program something.

I have a new HDD, my initial plan is to change the battery and try my old drive again...if it doesn't work I am going to copy my old drive onto a new drive...and if all else fails I will download your image and put it onto the new drive.

I can get Linux onto a USB flash drive and run it from there, I work in software so I can do pretty much anything at this level haha. The one thing I never saw discussed anywhere is if the old drive has a corrupt sector, does Linux have a disk fix like Windows and is there a possibility of repairing the old drive? Or do we just assume it's dead and have to go with a clean image?

When you get the chance can you seed the CIC Image? I replaced the battery, tried the old hard drive - same problem with it just trying to boot every 30 seconds. Cloned it to a new HDD but still nothing, just a blank screen and not even the booting noises. Pretty much at the last attempt here with a new image

Ran dcheck on the drive in the QNX VM and it said disk has no errors. Slightly concerned the actual CIC unit may need to be replaced but I'll update once I get a new image and try again.

I am running the torrent - has 0 seeders and 0.00 availability

If you don't have the time to seed it then you can upload on Mega and PM me the link if that's easier.

It would definitely be easier but mega costs money...

I checked again and am definitely seeding. Maybe keep it running and see if anything changes? I've had issues every now and again where it takes a long time for torrents to actually start.

Unfortunately it doesn't show any seeders - it seems the trackers and links are broken which might be why.

If we need to I can send you 15$ or whatever Mega costs to upload files larger than 20Gb. I cannot find an image anywhere, apparently nobody drives an E70 X5 in North America outside of us

weird. I recreated the whole thing. Try this. If it doesn't work let me know and I'll contact you via PM.

Still having issues with the trackers...

I sent you a PM. If I get a copy I will try to seed it or upload it somewhere since I see a few other people on peer discovery are also trying to get a copy of this from you.

So I tried with an image and still no response, black screen with the new image and new drive. When I put my old drive I hear it trying to boot and reboot every 30 seconds but black screen constantly regardless. Does anyone know if there is a way to test with INPA for a failed CIC unit? I am somewhat doubtful my hard drive failed as when I plug it into my computer it works fine and passed error testing as well in QNX.

Edit: Went ahead and ordered a used CIC unit from another 2013 X5. Will update when it's installed in a few weeks. If that's not the issue then I am truly clueless.

Used CIC I swapped in did the trick - my CIC unit bit the dust. Both my hard drive and the used CIC I bought hard drive work. The problem now is that both drives have Nav disabled and TPM malfunction.

Is there a decent guide anywhere on how to patch FSC codes so that my Nav will work again? I am thinking the TPM is a separate issue but not 100% sure. I've seen everyone talking about FSC patcher and emulators but nobody actually explains or shows how it is done...

bagoly14 how far with the FSC coding have you gotten? Is your firmware on the new CIC unit c1a when you read it in NCSExpert?

I've done it 2-3 times now. It is very frustrating to complete. Emulators aren't really the way to go anymore and there are two different FSC activation methods. The only one that worked for me is CIC Patcher V2.
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...03&postcount=3
Here is the best "guide" I've found.

I don't remember specific steps but I did make some notes which aren't great. What seems important, since I wrote it down multiple times is to use CIC Patcher V2 and ensure firmware is at c1a.

I've not gotten far.

I've been told I need to wipe the FSC codes from the new CIC, upload my OEM FSC codes to it, and then VO code original specs.

I'm in the process of finding someone who can do this, but so far I've gotten no responses to my messages, or services are charging $500 for the coding. I'm going to talk to my local dealer and see what their opinion is on the whole thing.

Honestly the fact that you need to be a rocket scientist to solve issues on these cars is beyond ridiculous.

Do you have any software installed on a laptop? INPA/NCSExpert/etc?

The thread I posted walks through the steps required, but you will need the proper software. Honestly, I couldn't see owning a E chassis w/o some sort of software support.

It is only "rocket science" if you want to do it yourself for free. If you're even remotely computer savvy and have a little patience it's really not rocket science at all.

The dealer route is definitely an option but you will pay for it.

Turns out the dealers either won't do CIC replacement at all, or won't touch a CIC from another vehicle. Most Indy shops have no idea what a CIC is from what I can tell when I called around. Not sure if it's because BMWs aren't popular in Georgia or what, but they don't have the technical knowledge in this state on how to work with BMW coding/programming apparently.

I ended up finding someone after being sent around a lot through the forums, Alex at Alpine Motorsports in Culver City, CA 310 560 0808 did the coding for me remotely for $120. Took about 1.5 hours but everything works as original - despite my car having some quirks with the head-unit.

If anyone is looking to have a CIC unit coded for E70 I would go this route, it's just not worth the time and headache trying to do it yourself (trust me).
