Auto close tailgate from inside car?

Looking for a way to close tailgate from inside the car. The dash button only seems to open it. So what happens when I need to close it?

Any ideas?

Get out of the car and go around back and press the close button.

Safety feature.

There is no way. I kind of wish there was too. My wifes Lexus RX 350 can open or close the hatch from inside the car so I don't see why BMW can't do the same.

Lexus has a close sensor. If you put an object in the way the hatch reverses.

BMW does not have a sensor and as a matter of fact, I think it shuts too abrubtly. For $70k, you think it would be a smooth close.

The good news is iDrive works while driving while the Lexus locks you out of everything. I guess we cannot have it all.

there is a way if you have CA on your car. Just don't use the fob to turn on the ignition and when you need to close the tailgate just get the fob out of your pocket and hold down the button till it's completely close.

that should do the trick ^_~

I thought if you held the hatch release button down too long that the alarm would sound.

This is a real bummer for those who have the alarm. Are you sure it works for the X6? Man if i knew this when i ordered mine i would have never got the alarm. Doesn't do anything anyway. How can BMW even call it an alarm?!

I tried, does not work. Alarm goes off. Besides the button is to open and not close. It sends the same code so I am not sure why this would work even without an alarm.

That is why there is a lock and unlock button. Different codes are sent.

If your works, there must be something specific in your region. Here in the U.S. we cannot even close a convertible top with the remote.

umm ... My car is at the dealer's for a couple of days (I hope) for a software update and some rattling fixes here and there. will try to make a video if anyone is interested

btw ... I did try to close the top of a convertible 335 a while ago and it did work, so it might be as chuck said " there must be something specific in your region"

tailgate closing from inside

The logic / or lack thereof, depending on who & where u are, as explained to me during pre-delivery orientation:
the person standing under the tailgate closes it, so he/she would be wise enuf to keep head&hands away from the opening. If someoone inside the cabin can close it, somebody is going to close it on their kids' fingers/head.
The logic is u don't have the option to make a mistake, with or without audio door closing alarm/warning. (The seat belt reminder is annoying enuf to work!)
Why they don't have the drive force distribution visible on the HU Display, so u have to glance down at the dash is more non sensical "logic".

Thanks for your explanation. However, I don't buy it as you could apply the same logic to the window switches preventing the driver from closing anybody else's windows so that they don't trap their head/arms in the window. I haven't tried it, but I'm sure for safety reasons the hatch will stop if it meets with resistance, much like the windows.

My wife's ML350 allows both opening and closing functions from the same switch. Its really a no-brainer!

I believe it does stop if it meets resistence during the first 2/3 of closing but the last 1/3 of closing it slams shut abruptly and I am sure if someone's hand or arm is in the way at this point then it is too late!

yes it would stop if it met resistance but am not sure if the 2/3 part is true ... i tried once to close the tailgate and put my hand in the way and it's not as sensitive as the windows safety sensor but it does stop if it met resistance and thats what matters

That's what they call character.
You have character when u can accept reality/difficulty,
The object of desire's character is it requires compromise(s) of those who seek to possess it, in xchange for pleasure it grants in return. Like a woman.
But he who pays have the right to complain.

Even though it's kind of hard to follow through, i think you're dead on!
