Buying a 2013 X5 50i with a new engine
Hey guys, I'm strongly considering purchasing a 2013 X5 50i that had it's engine replaced 14k miles ago (about 62k original miles on the car). I've read a bit about the issues with the old engine and the class action lawsuit, but I'm by no means an expert on the topic. My biggest concerns are now about the quality and reliability of the new engine, it's impact on the X5's performance, and whether there are often other issues post-replacement.
I would really appreciate any insights about this model year in general and/or specifically issues, or the lack thereof, after engine replacement. |

Get a inspection done by a BMW mechanic and if everything is ok , then go ahead.
It is a very low mileage car and a new engine should last another 50k miles . |

I second what X5man said. Then after purchase, first thing you need to do is:
1 - Take off your engine cover. It serves no purpose other then to make the engine "look pretty" and traps heat in. Heat saturation is what drastically shortens the life off these engines. 2 - Change oil to LiquiMoly leitchlauf 5-40 oil. 3 - Transmission filter/oil change (BMW will tell you it lifetime oil as a marketing gimmick ZF makes the transmission and tells the public it is NOT and needs to be changed every 60 to 80k.) 4 - Transfer case oil change. Do these simple steps and you will get another 60-100k+ miles out of your X5. |
