Rear Brakes Replaced -- E-brake Immediately Fails
Hey folks!
I've been lurking for sometime and have learned a lot. I've got a 2011 X35d that I've been keeping alive for about 165k miles. I can't seem to part with it. A few days ago my local repair shop replaced my rear brake rotors and pads. I picked the car up, drove home and parked. A few minutes later, as I was standing outside next to the car, I heard a very loud screeching sound. Yep. E-brake locked up. First time I've ever had a problem with the e-brake. I was able to manually release it and get it back to the repair shop. Could the brake job be related to the actuator failure? I'm not sure if calibration is needed and they didn't do it, or if I should chock this up to an unfortunate coincidence. |

Potentially. You're supposed to readjust the parking brake after replacing the rear rotors. If they did this then it's probably a coincidence as these parking brakes fail often for various reasons. If they did not do this then it could be their fault but it might be tough to prove depending on what the failure was.

FWIW on my third E70, and if you don’t use the ebrake and/or auto hold then I think it is much more likely to fail or have issues.
