I make the same mistakes and don't see the effect until later because I'm immersed in the technical part of the shot.

Here is one of mine speeding towards the Delaware River. Same problem with Comp.

LOL yes, I know what you mean. That shot was actually done in Virtalrig as an exercise. I'm not a professional photographer, so I am not sure an investment in a real rig would make sense for me, although I really do want one. I thought that VirtualRig would help quell my thirst. You are are right, this shot doesn't make too much sense given that my wheel is turned. If I plan on another virtualrig shot, I know now to straighten the wheel.

It might be my bias talking (it's my car, I took the shot and I did the post-processing on the image) but I think this is a pretty cool shot.

Feel free to set me straight.

From my experience the general consensus will be that the HRD is overdone. See how the car "glows" against the garage? It doesn't look natural and can be seen as "tacky". But some people like that stuff; like you for example.

Another one I have, with the car naturally dirty after a slightly damp canyon run:

I would second that. Less is definitely more in the PP world :-)

Thanks for the kind words!

That was only my second time using VirtualRig so not hard at all. It is actually very easy IMHO. The real work was actually finishing in photoshop: cutting out the car (carefully), pasting it back in, and blurring the wheels etc. Im still working on blurring the reflections, which I didn't do for this shot.

The shadow also makes it feel like the car is floating.

I like it. I didnt even know there was a thing called virtual rig. I do 99% of all my effects IN CAMERA that I don't even know the stuff that's out there. I would feel like I was cheating but it looks pretty good! Turn the lights on next time so it looks like it's actually running lol.

I know fuck all about virtual rigging so I'll have to say good effort and you've inspired me to research this dealio.

However the rear tire looks like it is floating and also out of proportion with the rest of the car.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind next time.

I just started using it this week. All of my previous rolling shots have been in camera as well. I think it is cheating to an extent, but given the amount of touchups and photoshopping in automotive photography, it's not out of the ordinary.

The rear tire wasn't photoshopped, but I think I lost the shadow during the process... good spotting!

Agreed... Too much processing makes the photo look unappealing.

I like everything about it, except the garage door and the light. Maybe you can apply a Gaussian blur there, but that's just me. I want total focus on the car.
