X6 refresh

Anyone know when BMW ususally refresh their SAV/SAC line? The current X5 came out in 2007 and they should have a refresh for 2011 model. I am just wondering when they will refresh their X6.

Model runs are 7 years. Refreshes occur mid way. The X6 came out in 2008, so I suspect 2012 will be the refresh assuming they are still building them.

Can you enlighten me more to why would you think so? Am I missing something here? If I understand correctly, you think that BMW will just easily stop producing X6 after a few years after introduction !? Now that's the wildest idea i've heard in a while. Have you ever heard that BMW or any other major car maufacturer built a car model and then just dropped it a few years later?! Plus, the model has been a big success since introduction. It's just sounds strange hearing that from X6 owners.

Only one I can think of is the Edsel, think it was a one year car. I had friend that bought a new one, when they announce it was being killed he took a blow torch to his and turned it into a dune buggy.

The X6 has been a big success for BMW (margin on these is high) so doubt it will go away. Having said that, the X6 will always be a niche car same as M3 and 6 series (M and normal), they are expensive and don't have mass appeal the way the 3/5 series does.

I think there is a misunderstand in regards your refresh or in another word face lift. I belive and it will for the X6 to have a face lift in 2012, that how they market it. They wont stop the production line. It the same for the X5 E53 than face lift in 2005 now E70. X5 is also a huge success.

I wouldn't even doubt that, the idea is basically ridiculous. How many years BMW have put into R&D for any car model? not to mention the waste of millions of development money. I'm sure they've considered all the possible scenarios that could affect the X6 sales or any other model. Besides, they've just introduced M power models, so dropping a model after a few years is not an option or an easy decision for any big car manufacture, especially that the sales are impressive and the competition is tense between companies to grab a market share and broaden their lineup.

The M coupe was dropped after the new model was in production just a year or two.

The X6 is 95% X5. Minimal R&D costs.

The reality is, the new CAFE standards will force all companies to sell more smaller cars and a lot less larger gas guzzlers.

Right now the only cars BMW has that will pass the new standards are the 3 series diesel.

Chevy has 32MPG SUV's on TV ads and BMW still sucking at 15-20MPG. BMW has a long way to go or will be forced to cut certain models. I personally think the X6 is a marketing gimmic to buy them time. Change a few body panels and jack the price up to make some quick cash. I suspect several models will be gone before long as BMW adapts to the new economy.

The M coupe was a product within a product line that consists of few other models...we're talking here about the whole lineup of X6. If gas milage is the only concern here, then 1/2 of the big companies lineup should disappear
within a few years. That just doesn't make sense. These companies do alot of planning a research ahead of any product for the future and I'm sure they've considered all the possible impacts of possible economic changes. If you say that they will concentrate their efforts in the future to develop more efficient vehicles, then I would totally agree. But dropping a whole line, that just doesn't make any sense. Don't forget they've already introduced the new hybrid model, which is based on the X6, and that addresses some of the efficiency concerns. So I think the idea here is to develop new efficient strategies within the same lineup.

Anyway, we're not gonna argue over that cause everyone has different opinions and ideas regarding the auto industry and I do appreciate others point of views...Cheers

the sky is falling and the polar ice caps will be totally gone is 7 years ( according to Al Gore). In reality the sky just turns with the planet and climate-gate pretty much shows the "science" behind global warming is just a way to get grants to study it.

In the world of cars the gas guzzler tax will go up and those that can afford those cars will pay it (BMW will not be making anything they can make money on). X6 didn't cost BMW much to develop and it's basically a cash cow for them. Any car with niche appeal will last as long as they make more money on it than it cost to produce.

If anything in the BMW line is in jeopardy it's the M3 , tons sitting at all of my local dealers and not enough 20/30 somethings to buy them.

Porsche announced that the Panamera would only be run one model cycle.

The Cayenne is going away as well.

The sky is not falling. But clearly the manufacturers are going to have to change if they want to survive. Billions of dollars were lost in retirement funds. Luxury car sales (made up of mainly of middle class leases) will drop off sharply. No doubt.

Cayenne is getting a major redesign for 2011. More of a crossover.

It looks more like a Kia than a Porsche.

Yup - maybe better off for them to cancel it altogether
