Xenon Bulb Replacement X5 E70
Question for the guys who have already changed out their D1S Xenon bulbs.
Which bulbs do you recommend and why ?? I have been shopping and see the prices all over the place. Is there any good reason why I shouldn't get a pair of these bulbs from Walmart for $30 bucks, (vs spending $84 for one bulb at FCP Euro) check it out and please advise https://www.walmart.com/ip/D1S-35W-6...CABEgJ3WvD_BwE ps - I used the search button on this site trying to find and answer and came up with a ton of threads, most of which had nothing to do with Xenon D1S bulbs |

Looks like Chinese crap. I know these bulbs aren’t the cheapest thing but stick to name brands-Phillips or Osram are good places to start. Morimotto is good too if you want to save some money.
Check out the retrofit source |

When I needed a fast replacement, I did a phillips bulb from a parts store for like $125, that made me mad since I am pretty sure the problem was the ballast as I kept getting error codes and that light not working.
Once I decided that I wanted better bulbs, I did the Osram CBI bulbs, 2+ years and still working great and I like the color, especially matched with LUX angel eyes. |

My post said, as you quoted, "so others can benefit"
NOT for my benefit, for "Others" who may wander across this thread in the future. I also stated in the first post that you replied to. "Which bulbs do you recommend and why ??" Thanks for brow beating me though. |

Pretty sure they are the same ones that were linked above my post, but the boxes are at my shop so I can't verify. I bought from either Amazon, or The retrofit source.
They do have some new options out now, the nightbreakers are one, that is more of an oem color than a white/blue which is better for distance, as well as driving in fog/snow/ etc which is the one downfall of the CBI color. There is also an even bluer option I think but I view it at the point of losing actual vision with the lights, for the look, which defeats how well our lights work. |

I want the exact OEM look and I have the same LUX angel eyes installed as you, so I appreciate your feedback on that too. |

From my research around the internet and from TRS, the best 2 bulbs are either the Osram CBB and Philips XV2. CBB is rated at 7k but it’s closer to 6k. Extreme white with a hint of blue. XV2 is going to give you the absolute most light output but it will slightly yellower (compared to CBB). The XV2 will perform a bit better in rain and snow with the slightly warmer color.
Runner up: Osram CBI- used to be Osrams best but CBB now tops it. Slightly warmer output than CBB Osram Nightbreaker If you go on YouTube, you can see Retrofit Source comparing all these bulbs to each other and you can get a feel for what you like. All of these will be whiter and brighter than the factory bulbs. |

+1 on Nightbreakers, I have them on and they are much much better than stock ones, not just the look but actually you can see further and brighter at night.
As far as Temp. goes, if you live in sunny no rain area, you can go crazy on color (like 6000K+) but if you live in rainy area, if you go above 6000K+ temp. you can't see squat on the road, since water reflect blue color. |

Amazon has delayed a lot of shipments during the virus. I’m finding most things I order ship before the date listed tho

I've had Night breakers, Philips XV2's and currently use CBI's in my E70. I prefer the CBI's as they match the LED halo rings. Night breakers were warm but good light output. XV'2 were nice as well and "cooler" than NB's, but CBI's were the closest to what I was looking short of doing another projector retrofit in one of my cars. I have yet to try CBB's but will look into it when I do a projector upgrade in the E70.
FWIW I've also had the Morimotos 5500k and they were ok and much better than stock. If going with Morimoto I think the consensus is to go 6500k.

So many great posts and feedback, (exactly what these forums are for).
I'll ask the mods to get rid of the off-topic posts. Well, I for 1 found out exactly what I was looking for, feedback from other members on this forum (that have actually used these products). What I've learned/decided. 1) - I am no longer interested in the cheap Walmart bulbs, (although I wish they tested them in that video testing the other 3) 2) - I liked the the 2 pack of CBI bulbs for $110 bucks, (but not sure where they ship from). 3) - I was going to get the Morimoto for $70 bucks, (until I saw that video). 4) - Fact is, I tinted my headlights necessitating high quality bulbs, (so I can see at night) 5) - Going to go with the CBB - the first price I saw was $210 smackers for a twin pack Then I found them on Amazon for $140 - Is this a trick, does this come with 2 bulbs, (I couldn't find anything definitive). What do you guys think ?? https://www.amazon.com/OSRAM-Xenarc-..._t2_B00C7DAUFS Last edited by Entr0py; 04-18-2020 at 02:32 PM.. |

Yea I’m not sure why the discrepancy with CBB. TRS wants $250 and claims many on amazon and eBay are fake. Amazon is $110-180 depending on the vendor. Lightwerkz (who works closely with TRS) wants $180.
