Worn Tire Edges! Especially the inside of Rear Tire!

Perhaps you guys are experiencing the same thing. You see, my 2012 X5M front tires have started the 45mph howl....which lessens as I get above 60mph, etc. I already knew that the cause was most likely due to the out edge of the front tires developing the infamous "high-low",...cupping tread wear pattern Although there is plenty of tire left,...especially within the center area I'm going to grin and bear it 'til about July.

That said, I decided to take a look at the rear tires today,...and was quite surprised to see that the inside of the rear tires won't make it to July of this year,...even though there appears to be enough tread from center to outer edge to make it to Feb 2018!

The vehicle tracks nice and straight,...all day,..everyday, so, I'm wondering if I have an alignment issue or this I just normal for the X5M!

I've had previous 4.6is,...'05 4.8is and though the tires did wear inside rear a bit faster than the rest of the tire,...I did manage to wear the center down to the wear bars. So I would say they quite even,...and the front tires on it (the 4.8is) did cup and howl at 45mph, etc.

I just checked my purchase date and it was purchased 4/10/15,...mileage then = 33,971 and mileage now = 59,507,...25,530 miles on the tires,...which appeared to be new when I bought it!

What are you guys finding may I ask?

PS: A bit more info: My '03 4.6is had Michelin Diamaris,...'05 4.8is came with Michelin Diamaris,...then to Goodyear HPs,...then to Conti's Extreme Contact DWS. My X5M is also shodded with runflats.

Mine after one year of use. Mind you I drive it HARD and this was one trip to Bimmerfest as well, which for me is Seattle to Hollywood to Vegas and back to Seattle. I get an alignment before and after every trip and it's not cambered in the rear even with 22's...and the camber on the E70 is nothing compared to the E53. I just know better for the next set of rears to swap them around after about 6 months.

You have a piss poor alignment.
Toe EATS tires. It eats them, like a fat kid does cake. The cupping pictures above are a toe issue.

Address the toe, get camber under -2.0 and you'll be fine. Do NOT settle for a BMW "spec," alignment.

Front camber is adjustable with a simple camber bolt that you'll have to buy for about $40. I like the H&R TripleC units personally since they do not use the tab washer.

I will address this issue to my SA and see if they are willing to make adjustments in alignment that would yield better wear down the middle,...vs wearing out the inside!

Tyvm!

Yes! I'm prolly lucky,...but I got more than 40k on same size tires on '05 4.8is.

I'm considering going to the Conti's Extreme Contact DWS over runflats though. I had these on the '05 4.8is and they worked very well,...especially in the snow!

I assume the suspension is stock!...and is probably just the normal ride height of 2012 X5M.

Wow. i had an 02 4.6is and ran through the diamaris tires in like 15k. The toyo Proxes STIIs lasted much longer

I hear great things about the DWS's. I'm getting an X5M this weekend and will probably put the DWS's on it

My 4.8is was my daily commuter,....and photo gear hauler! I traded it some 159k on the odometer.

The DWSs are very quiet,...smooth as butter!

Stop and do not pass go... BMW will only perform a BMW spec'ed alignment, there is no wiggle room or alternative to asking for a different value set on the car.

You will have to go to an indy that specializes in custom alignments. Like PTUNING
http://www.ptuning.com/subdir/services.cfm I assume you're in Norfolk area, so that's a bit far, and you can find something closer.
