N63 intake supposedly coming soon...
I don't know how reliable the source is, but someone posted on another site that Dinan has completed testing and is starting initial production of their full intake for the F10 550i. It was reported that it has been tested to give a 30hp gain, which makes sense given the restrictive intake on the N63. Don't know if gains are additive with other stages, but somewhere around 530 hp with stage 1 or 2 tune and intake sounds nice. Hopefully we will see this become available for the x5 50i in the next few months. Hopefully other tuners will follow with other intake options.

Most BMWs have nice cold ram-air box, K&N drop in should do the trick. Sometimes open intake design just suck up hot air, making the mod counter-productive.
I had dual Pop Charger Intakes when I had my Z, it didn't make any more power on the dyno with the hood closed + hot engine compared to the stock box. It just sounds good. Most people dyno their new intake upgrade with the hood open. |

Agree with all you said. I primarily want it for the sound.. want to hear the turbos and the blow off. Not to worried about power, already have a Dinan tune and doubt the intake would do much more.

Not yet...
By the way, the 50i doesn't have a K&N drop-in option because of the very convoluted intake setup and airboxes which are bolted shut.

It's convoluted on purpose to prevent people from easily turning their n63 to an s63, since they're almost identical power plants. Clever...

K&N filters - is it worth spending time & $$?
Folks,
complete newbie here; i just bought my 2011 x5 50i two days ago; the car is amazing, however the exhaust note is week;( i was thinking to do of what i usually do [with other cars]: replace the air filters with K&N and disconnect the batter to reset the computer settings.. that seems to be weirdly odd for the x5 as the filters are hidden; is it worth it? is it that easy as i think it is? i found that the K&N has the filters available for sale.., below is the link http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?prod=33-2449 thanks, chris |
