Recall: Front Driveshaft

So I know I sold my X5 a while ago but my dealer sent me a letter stating the front drive shaft on all X5's are under a separate warranty for 10YR/120K. "THIS IS NOT A RECALL" is what it says in BOLD. Add another one to the books for the X5.

I'm looking at the same letter, which says to me it must be across all X5s, not just 50s.

Yep, I have a 35D and I just got this letter yesterday as well. I'm due for service in 3-4 months, I'm going to ask them to take a look at the driveshaft to ensure it's all still in good condition. I'd rather not get stranded somewhere due to its failure.

You don't need the letter. I haven't get it yet either but I called BMWUSA and they told me I don't need it, that is on the system. So you can call to verify or go to the dealership and find out.

I took my letter with me to my Service Appointment last Thursday and asked my SA about this. He looked at me dumbfounded, asked to make a copy, and proceeded to tell me he'd never heard anything about this yet, but had a previous claim from another X5 owner who'd had incurred some expenses from something similar involving the driveshaft. We ended up leaving our X5 for service over the weekend and took a loaner on our way. Haven't heard anything yet!

Guys,
I got all my services record pulled from the delaler and here is the driveshaft services back in 9/2014. So a year and 10k miles on the new p/n and no issues. Fingers cross.

I've owned mine for all of 3 weeks, so I doubt I'll be getting a letter.

Can someone scan one as a PDF so I can edit it with my own name and take it to the dealership before waiting for a catastrophic failure.

James, couple things. 1. Make sure you call bmw usa to change the vehicle/owner information if you haven't already done so. 2. I got my letter today, and it just extends the warranty. You will only get a replacement if there's an issue with the associated parts. It's not a recall or campaign.

My X5M just got outta the dealership yesterday to replace the FRM3 module that failed during my injector upgrade since the battery died in the process. I'm not sure how new of news this is, but I'm in the middle of arguing with BMW NA at the moment anyways about how they've done the N63 Campaign (a recall that's not a recall) in an attempt to get them to pay for my injectors since damn near EVERY search about our high pressure injectors brings up threads of failures, regardless of engine or vehicle...just one more thing for me to complain about in my next email.
