2011 X5 35d 1600 km road trip

Well I picked up a new (well with 200 kms on it) 2011 X5 35d drove 1600 kms under extreme winter conditions from -20 to -40 degrees celcius.....it is so cold that when I fuel up the hose on the pump breaks off, at -40 it takes a while for the engine to warm up drove for about half an hour before the engine warms up enough to have warm air inside the truck.. I think the key is to block the kidneys with something so it'll stop the cold air from cooling the engine at a fast rate....so for those people who are wondering the reliability of this truck at extreme temperature....well I might say that I am really impress of how well the engine performed......just my 2 cents

I have actually found the diesel X5 to be a much better car in the cold temperatures than my S4 (Super Charger doesn't like below freezing temps). It fires up immediately. We've been in the 20 degrees to -10 degrees fahrenheit range over the last 3 weeks.

delio13 - I have not had to wait 30 minutes for the cabin to warm up. It generally takes less than 10 minutes to have hot heat blowing and less than 5 minutes before the heated seats are cranking. Do you think your time estimation is a bit off or have you messed with the circulation settings at all?

Last January I took my "d" up to central Quebec (about 4 hours north of Montreal). When I arrived in late afternoon it was -10F (sorry, don't know celsius).I made it a point to fill up at a local Shell station in anticipation of a *cold* night.Thirteen hours later,at 7AM,it started like a champ at -31F.For the first 30 minutes it felt, and sounded, like a Mack truck but after that it ran like a top.Of course by then the temperature had soared to -25F.

These things are *amazing* in cold weather.

poindexter.....yeah...-40 celcius is equal to -40 ferenheit thats where the two temp equalizes....so your about -30 degress off...but yeah it took about thirty minutes to warm up...so at -40 celcius at 100 km/h.....with the wind chill factor sooo..to boot.....
