Has anyone else had this problem from there X6M?

I am sitting with only 20300 miles and this warning has started to appear?

I know right! I got the same answer from my dealer as well. Just figured it might be more of a faulty battery during the week of my production run.

Im now experiencing this for the 2nd time w/ my 09. 1st was last Feb after I got it. It doesnt like cold weather. it was -20 the other night and that pretty much killed it. Doesnt matter that it is driven for 20-30 minute drives, comfort access, clock, and vents dont work. I am extremely pissed at why my $100k suv cant handle cold and BMW's solution is "Drive it longer." My neighbor's $40k Kia has no prob, our MDX never had the issue, but now a more expensive, better built car goes into conservation mode when it gets cold

I wonder if they uprated the battery to a better amperage and/or the alternator/charging system. I'd check with the dealer for part no's on mine and the current model year. Checking parts numbers, certainly looks like the alternator p/n changed between 2009-11

It maybe a recognized problem and if it is, then I would have thought you can insist on a warrantee exchange/upgrade. No vehicle should have that sort of issue.

I had that numerous times and they tried the first couple of attempts at charging it up fully, Finally tested it and said it was only holding like 30% charge they replaced the battery with a new one at 23K miles.

Just got back from the dealer. I have had the same battery issues now for a while, and it gets worse when the weather gets colder in Ontario.

The tech told me that the battery was 50% full when I brought it in and when they ran their tests they could not charge beyond 90%. My car has only 25,000km on it and I feel that this is ridiculous! They said they cannot replace it unless it drops a lot lower or if it gives them a repair code.

There must be a way to get multiple owners to complain to BMW so they can look into putting better/bigger batteries into these cars!

Battery replaced

My 2008 X6 with 27k miles needed a new battery, not covered by warranty for $717 dollars! I'm being unreasonable that this should be a warranty item?

Why was it not under warranty? How is that your fault and not the manufacturer's? Or is your warranty over?

That's irritating, why would they think you want to spend $717 on a shit battery that doesnt last.

I just had my battery replaced for that same reason. As soon as it got cold, I started getting the increased battery discharge error. I couldn't even open the door to vacuum the car, without getting the battery fail error.

Took it it BMW, and they said the battery wasn't hold more than 30% charge, so they replaced it with the newer AGM battery. No problems since.

Same problem with my M3 and X6 M. The M3 has now been in for at least 5 times, and the X6 M 3 times, but the problem persists. Also been told that I should drive longer distances - ridiculous.

I had the same issue with my 2008 335xi. I got a battery tender to keep the batttery charged. It is an official bmw oem accessory so shouldn't affect your warranty (that they are apparently not honoring in the first place). $50 fix to avoid the $700 expense down the road. I was thinking about selling it but looks like I hang onto it just in case I need it for the X6. As for now, my X6 issues are oil related. My car is 7 months old and this is the second time the 'low engine oil' warning has come on. Doesn't seem right that I need to top off my oil twice in 7 months.

2nd new battery?

Had the battery replaced on my 2009 X6 50i around 15k miles after being in for it 3 times before. First really cold night and not driving it for several days and increased battery discharge error again. Taking it in today for that and the water pump recall.

I agree with a previous poster, $100k and I have to deal with this?! Ridiculous!

First off, let's remember that our cars have a lot more computers, motors, electronics than any Kia or Acura.

Next off, this is a persistent problem (especially on the new 5-series where there is even more electrical draw).

Last but not least, BMW has changed their position on this numerous times - first they covered, then they said no, now they are covering again (or so my dealer tells me).

I should also mention I would get this with my old M5 - but only when it rained. I suspected the Comfort Access was getting confused by the rain.

Eventually, BMW is going to need to go to 36/42 voltage battery - but I hear that is dead.....

Remember that the alternator has a clutch which is activated by the computer either during braking, or if the battery reaches a low voltage condition. As far as I know this is the only way the battery gets charged. The rest of the time the battery is discharging to keep all the various electronic devices up, including the lights.

Voltage on batteries drops slightly as they age. Voltage and cranking amps also drop during cold temperatures. Voltage also drops during the time the vehicle is parked. In very cold climates it may be a good idea to trickle charge the battery regularly to pump the voltage up to a higher level than it otherwise would get to. Battery warmers are also used in some instances.

Once I figured out that the battery is a deep cycle battery, and that there is a possibility that depending on driving, it may not get fully charged, I began a routine of charging the battery if it seems a little low during cranking, or if the car has been parked for an extended time. Regular battery charging with an automatic trickle charger can extend the life of any battery.

We have a generator at work with an automatic battery charger. I just replaced the Optima batteries I installed 9 years ago simply due to their age. They both still had good voltage and I gave one to a guy at work and the other one I put in an old truck I was selling. The glass-matt batteries can have an incredible life if they are trickle charged on a regular basis.
