Necro reply since I don't come here much anymore:

I don't have them on hand but I'm pretty sure there are peer-reviewed studies that say newborns (as in days from birth) need to be fed every two hours. As they grow, their stomach and system can handle more and they can go longer. The two-hour intervals don't last long. I forget how long we did it for, maybe a month? I dunno.

Either way, first birthday is in a few weeks. Holy shit time flies...

Tell me about it. I still remember not sleeping, worrying about my kid. Warm enough? Hungry?

Still lose sleep, but now Grades? Car safe? College?

Crazy shit.

Went in on Saturday 9am last week. Induced labor. Regular contractions. Pain. Got epidural. Eased the pain from contractions. Ok let's get some sleep....

4am...I wake up to her being rushed out for emergency c section for low heart rate (60). Baby born blue with low heart rate. Doctor said may be mild to moderate hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy or known as HIE. Lack of oxygen supply to organs and brain with potential injuries and development problems in the future. We were shocked. He was given a cooling treatment (I need a cool suit for racing too) for 72 hrs then rewarmed up. He fought it like a champ though.

Kidney lung liver tests normal. Ultrasound check for brain bleeding none. EEG activity normal. MRI of brain normal. This dude defeated everything in his way that was thrown at him. He's still at the nicu to practice some feeding since he was rejecting the intubation but he should be home soon.

Congrats! Sounds like he is a fighter! All the best for now (sounds like he is doing well already) and for all of his life. And yours.

Congrats, take care of the little monster.

BUT, later, go back and look at details. Sounds like epidural caused some issues, may be a malpractice case waiting. A lifetime of illness is not bueno.

Yea I clearly remember everything that happened and even felt guilty why didn't I do more research beforehand? During treatment and labor sometimes I felt that I was more attentive to all the graphs on machines than the staff were - pointing things out when there were unusual dips etc. he's 100% healthy not even a minor point in anything from neonatologist neurologist etc so nothing to worry about. I do have some follow up appts as protocol from being in nicu though.

Studies have shown that babies with such history will grow up to have big dicks. Congrats buddy. Might be the first Kim to sport an 8 incher.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I'd personally get this "baby on board" window decal...

Boring topic but worth the ask!
Don't spoil. Limit TV to one hour. Never put young kids in front of TV to free yourself up. Never yell at a young kid from across the room, always get out of your seat and walk over to them and get in their face. From the earliest time, don't let crying manipulate you. Don't be afraid to let them cry. Racism starts in the house, never make a funny based on someones color. And for God's sake, from their earliest days lock up all electronic gadgets from 4 pm until 10 am.

NOTHING IN THIS LIST COSTS MONEY ONLY YOUR TIME, LOVE, DEDICATION, and PERSISTENCE.

Finally, I see congrats are in order! It sounds like you have a super strong kid. That's fantastic news on the test results. Our family will say a prayer for your little guy.

But there is no indication that this kid is ill - based on what OP said, sounds like he fought through and is perfectly normal. Which is a positive thing. And kids really are fighters, I know, from experience.

I know from experience as well that there were decels (low heart rates) on both my son and wife during the labouring stage. Which was worrying for all concerned, but seems to be nothing to do with drugs / care and everything to do with some people's physical makeup. Can't prevent it. I'm not saying to OP not to look into stuff, but don't throw yourself down this road because it most likely won't lead to anything and then you're just upset at the system and waste of time because you start believing the merits of your own case. Concentrate on the positive - a healthy baby boy.

Congrats OP!! Amazing news.

Fuck. I've been making fun of blue and purple people this entire time. Great advice. I'll limit myself to only Pinks. Them pinks really piss me off.
