Finding a diesel 2010+ with Adaptive Drive. Wow this is tough
I have been diesel shopping for a few months now. My only requirements are diesel, a light color and Adaptive Drive. I travel for work so I shop nationwide although my focus has been in CA. 2009s are super easy to find with Adaptive Drive but they all have 80k+ miles and no warranty. Should I keep up the search or just go for a decent 09? I really hate the 09 i-drive. Top view camera is also useful for me.
Someone sent me this a while ago but it is at an independent used car dealer which is usually not a good sign. http://www.ultimomotorsports.com/inv...zw0c53cl665912 My top 09 as of now. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...ngId=392277863 thanks for letting me vent. |

I am in month 3 now. I spent 6 months looking for a perfect E90 and it was well worth it in the long run. The main issue I am having is the flood of base model, off lease 2011 and 2012s out there. If I could bulk run VINs this would be much easier. We need a data warehouse.

Not all '09s are beat to hell, mine isn't.

You are correct. Most 09s I find are in great shape. I was just hoping to get something a little newer. Paying $25k for something with little to no warranty is a little annoying. Dealers can't even certify them because of the age. The price difference between an 2009 and a certified 2010 or 11 is not huge.

The problem is when BMW moved AD from the sport package, no one wanted to pay $3500 for it separately unless the knew specifically what it did

On their spec cars, dealers seem to run like hell from Adaptive Drive on both X5s and 5 series. It's a $3500 option on either car and they must think it's hard to sell. Indeed, there are very few late model cars that have it.
Personally I wouldn't drive an X5 or an xDrive F10 without it.

Here's one (I'm surprised this one isn't gone yet) - has AD, and CPO till 2018:

I wouldn't buy a 2009 at this point unless you were going to drive it into the ground. 2009 iDrive isn't that bad, just more dial-intensive. MMR is very low on this car, $17-$18K for above average condition and 8XXXX miles. ~15-16 for average ones. $26K is way too much for that car.
I can't comment on AD because I don't have it. However, I can comment on finding a 2011+ diesel with it. Good luck. I searched for the right diesel for 5+ months and finally threw in the towel. I looked at more diesels than any human being should look at and very rarely saw one with AD. You might have better luck looking at M Sports, those seemed to be the cars that tended to have AD. Of course, you can't get a diesel in the M Sport.....

I hear your pain in searching for the "right" car - I was looking for a 2012+ X5, still under warranty, with AD + 3rd row + comfort seats. Took me 3+ months to find the right one after a couple of near misses on out-of-state listings, before I found a super-loaded x5 50i in my own backyard; in the 3 months, I looked at *every* newly listed on cars.com every day (by "looked" I mean I did a vin decode -- that's 50+ each day for over 100 days). I had to compromise on color though; wanted gray or black, ended up buying white. It was a very stressful 3 months (I know, I know, first world problem ) Moral of the story: be patient. the right one will come along. I like the current one I sent you because it has CPO warranty till June 2018!! On whether AD is worth it: Another forum member in seattle is looking for an X5; he test drove many at the dealership lot, but none of them had AD. I let him test drive mine, and he swears that AD seems to make a big difference. The entire car feels "taut" is how he described it. Just something for you to consider.. |

Well I missed another one. The white 09 above lowered its price to $19,900 (from $26,900) last night. I got the update email this am but it sold before I could get them to call me back. I am a little relieved it is gone. It had zero warranty, not even 30 days, and I really should be getting something with less miles.

You can always retrofit a updated idrive in a 2009. It's very easy. Add combox for apps and you're generally up to date. BMW made modest updates with NBT but the big update is coming on the new 7er.
I would sell you my 09 diesel with new idrive but it's black ! |

Adaptive drive is considered more of a Performance Suspension than not. Most people purchasing a diesel are not ticking the "Performance Suspension" box for $3500 even though it completely changes the feel of the E70
